Hope everyone had a great trip wherever you ended up, I on the other hand had one of those trips that just could not go right, let’s see if I could break it down, sorry for the long read:
- Day one, get to Ocotillo in the evening, brother shows up with a new to him trailer and generator won’t start, spent a couple hours trying different things to get it going, to no avail. Plugged into another trailer and called it done. Take off for a night ride and a rzr in our group breaks an axle in a horrible spot, took a while to get it out and limp back to camp.
- Day two, spent most the morning/afternoon locating new axle and repairing said rzr, got a small ride to Blu In for lunch. Came back to camp for a minute and went on a what was supposed to be a short ride before it got dark for the dirtbikes, well a wrong turn took us through this slot canyon that just kept getting narrower, we all were hoping it opened up at some point but it didn’t, 3 sxs’s were stuck with the only option to back out the trail which was hard enough going forward and nearly impossible in reverse. Hours backing and digging, then riding back to camp in the dark with 3 kids on dirtbikes with no lights.
- Day three, getting ready to head out for a ride, buddy lost his key for his wife’s rzr, spent an hour or so sifting through sand and trailer, no luck, pop the ignition and hot wire it. Get about an hour into the ride, during a stop I noticed my sons boot was covered in oil, the bolts on his gearbox cover had rattled loose and was pissing oil on his brand new KTM. Didn’t want to take a chance with it being low on oil or dirt in the gearbox so loaded it on the back of my Talon and got to a trailhead and went back to camp to get my truck. Spent the rest of that day going to get oil and a new seal. That night went on a night ride, guy that broke axle on first day, smoked his belt, had extra one so was able to make trail repair and get back to camp.
- Day four, (new years eve) buddies fuel station pump stopped working, luckily on his weekend warrior there are two tanks, one for the generator and one for the toys, luckily they both have fuel stations, so he was able to swap the pump from the working generator tank to the other tank. Finally on the road for our first good ride with no issues, rode for hours and came back just as sun was setting. While we were gone brother had took his truck to town for some stuff and popped a leak in his radiator, so I drove him to Brawley to get a new radiator and my other buddy dropped his radiator, had it all repaired by like 8pm and could finally sit back and enjoy new year eve, or so we thought, another buddy left camp to go see a friend and smoked his rzr clutch so there we go to tow him back to camp.
- Day 5, we wake up and I start my generator, it runs for a few minutes and dies, it continues to do that, and at that point I thru in the towel, we were supposed to stay another day but I was just done and packed it up and went home.
