i finally upgraded from the stock plastic Mercryiser shifter that so many boat builders install. I was going to go with the Dana Marine setup, but decided to save the couple hundred dollars and go with he Hardin Marine Stiletto billet setup. It was also a direct swap from the Mercury controls. I did have to upgrade to Mercury GenII cables, but other than that, the wiring was simple, as was the install.
I’ve ran it 4-5 times now, and have only hit the throttle once on accident. but man is it so much nicer!

There is no comparison, I have the Dana marine one on mine and you cant compare it to the stock plastic crap , Why do they even bother with that plastic crap. you would think that manufactures would be embarrassed to install the plastic crap ! Do you think I like the plastic crap LOL :D

I have the same unit and I love it! So much better and smooth as butter!

I also liked the Hardin over the Dana for the canted levers and 250 bucks less

How do you trim up to the trailer position? Same as the stock one?

Exactly, and he direct replacement. Also, if you notice, I adjusted the neutral position on mine to be straight up, instead of back, it was uncomfortable to have my arm that far back

This is on my list. New gauges and steering wheel. Getting rid of the purple bezels and going with polished.

Nice. I assume all silver controls too?

I may do this next year. I want to do trim tabs this year.

Yes on the controls. Just can't make up my mind on the steering wheel. I like the Isotta Carlotta wheel but its about $600. A new 9 hole grant with a new polished hub is about $250. The Carlotta maybe a little to much bling on a 20 year old boat..lol

That will look nice. I just did a new 9 hole Grant when Eddie Marine had them on sale. Mine was brushed finish so I went with that again. I had to open up the hole slightly because of the powder coat on my hub.

The Carlotta is a bit too much for my tastes.

I do like the Diama however, pictured above. That would work well in an older boat I think. The simple Formula 5 3 spoke wheels look good too.

Did you run your Merc cables?

I did. My boat is an ‘03 so it thought it might have the GenII cables, but it didn’t, so I did had to change them. I decided it was easier going with them, instead of the 33c style. Shane at Offshore Marine here in Henderson hooked me up with the new cables.

Over the past 4 summers of having this boat, I have slowly upgraded the hardware and rigging to make it a little higher quality than what people unfortunately think of Cheetah’s, which also helps my resale. For the size of this boat being only 24’, I really couldn’t be happier with its space and performance. We just hit 190hrs on her. Maybe time to upgrade next season or so.

What year did the Gen 2 cables come out?
