It would be cool to see a factory CR 500 again. Service Honda has been building them for years using the CRF250 and 450 frames and making a killing. If true this bike will be in the $10,000 range no doubt.

Interesting. I'm all for then bringing back a big bore 2 stroke (I ride a KX500). But the way that read sounds like really big rumors. Honda has been so far removed from 2 stroke tech for so long I'm really finding it hard to believe. And the 90+ hp really sounds like a stretch. Plus, that kind of hp yet the top speed isn't much different at all? All sounds a bit fishy. Specially when the article states the rumor started on April fools day.

April fools product rumor supported only by Honda supposedly filing for CR trademarks.

That's pretty thin evidence...

I'll believe it when I see it. If those numbers are true today's riders ain't gonna like it they complain about the current cr500 power.
As a 500 owner I would say it's gonna be fought keeping that front end down in the dunes but a fun ride for sure.

I think some of you local pro bench racers should go throw a leg over any one of the new 450's and will be equally shocked at how much power any of the new production bikes put out.

The 500 was the shit back in its hay day I am sure, but its a has been now. I have grown up riding all my life, I have ridden them all. 500's are/were a handfull just as any of the new production bikes are today.

It'll be a good seller but red sticker in Cali. Honda needs something that's a fresh face and a performer.
Dealers like Ron at Berts tell me if it wasn't for SxS's they'd have been out of business long ago.

Seems Honda showrooms are always full of rumors.
Their rumored "Talon" supposed to be the Rzr killer.
Reincarnations of the pilot and oddessy, always lots of rumors.

Remember the Service Honda 500?

I agree. Honda has more wild rumors around them than anyother off-road company I think. Hense why I HIGHLY doubt it. Specially with tech they have shown to habe zero interest in.

Btw, the Service Honda 500's were made by a dealer. Not Honda themselves. Service Honda also made KX500AF's in the same manner.

Or new 250 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Most guys would be quicker on any of these than a 500, on a track.

Either way, it would be awesome to see....and ride! I will never give up my two smoke power, and I can throw a leg over an "open classer" and make em move! I loved riding those monsters, and yes they require some attention, and they also inspire fear on every level! would be cool if this story turns out true! :D:thumbsup

Photoshop is a beautiful thing :D

It would be a pretty slim market for a 500 2 stroke these days. Other than the novelty of owning one there is really no draw. Stuffing old technology in a new chassis doesn?t equal a great bike.

As much as i love my 500 theres a power balance where of the 90 hp is true it will be a hard bike to ride on a track. In the deserts it will be nice but will still have alot.I hit 5th gear in mine pinned in the big bowls but til then its carrying the front end often.I ride mostly dunes so i like my 500 but for a track hadnt ridden one in 20 years and prefered my old 250.

Ive ridden a couple 450s in the dunes they were fine but i like the hit the 500 has.But on my steelie suspension is what it lacks maybe someday ill do an AF conversion have the best of both. The upside of a 2 stroke is simplicity and cheap to maintain i just redid my whole engine last year payed 700 total for new bearings, seal, rebuild crank, new top end and bore.I did the assembly had ct racing do the machine work.Wasnt bad for an 8 year old top end and an original bottom end.I had a countershaft bearing blow out so had to rebuild.I dont think a 4 stroke would come close for repair.

Talked to a really good buddy of mine. If all works out, I'll be able to wrap my talons around this in about a month. Maybe a little less!

None? Like not even 80's?

Direct from the GM at the dealership up here in Reno. I'll as about the smaller bikes but from what he said Honda is all about the environment, and they are getting away from the 2 strokes.

Never gonna happen. Honda will NEVER build a 2 stroke ever again. It is a known fact that Honda likes 4 strokes more than 2 strokes.

Service Honda makes a product that is far superior to almost anything. They put the CR500 engines in either aluminum CR250 or 125 frames. They first balance the crank shaft to minimize the vibration

Each bike is custom to the rider. Beyond nice. I had a buddy buy one a few years back. Paid about 14K
