Im restoring a 66 El Camino and need a bigger compressor to keep up with some of the air tools im using for body work. Research suggests I need a 2 stage compressor that is in the 60-80 gallon range. Trying to find the best deal i can. Craigslist has a bunch of junk. Anyone in the business?

Twin cylinder from Home Depot, the biggest one they have on the floor. I remember it being $500. I ran my whole shop with it when I had the machineshop at my house

I've had the same one for 3 years and its been great. Only issue was a few weeks ago when I had to replace the belt that snapped.

I run air tools and used it to paint my schiada trailer

I actually just picked up another 60 gallon compressor last week for the plasma table that I bought off a rdp member. Now I just gotta run 220 to the back of my garage where I want to setup the air compressor

None of the $500 compressors are 2 stage unfortunately. Anyone else? Car needs a lot of body work so i dont want to sit around waiting for the compressor to catch up. Ive already got one that will do that.

2 stage is much quieter too. I have a speed air. No complaints. It just runs. They are a couple thousand from grainger

Are you saying the compressor I have that I listed from Home Depot is not two stage?

No, juzt what I saw at HD. Your link takes me to bing....maybe the result will be different if i try the link on my PC.

Checked the link-both of those appear to be "no longer available". I've been at this for a week, no 2 stage compressor at lowes or HD costs $500. Only the single stage deals for that price, and they turn 3500 rpm so they are really loud even though they are not oil-less.

What I like to do for painting on the job sight is buy a older model with a bad pump/ motor take it off and run a air fitting where the fill hole is. Gives you twice the storage. Not the best, but is a lot better then one on its own.

I have one like this made by Campbell Hausfield
http://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Ha.../Workshop-and-Industrial/N-5yc1vZc27pZ1z0v7nx
Cast iron compressor has been outside my garage for 25 years, never failed never even adjusted the belt. Just change the oil every few years. I have been doing body work with it for years. I don't think a single user can get ahead of a good size single stage.

X2.
I have had a CH Cast Iron compressor for 12 years now and it still runs like new. Low RPM and quite as well.

I don't often need that much compressor so when I do I daisy chain in series the two I have with a double male hose.
One tank feeds the tank of the other so both safety cut-offs work.
Works amazing.

Ok for what its worth here is my take....For body work the tools you will use consume a lot of cfms....that kills alot of compressors...I bought 25 years ago a 6hp 220v two stage Industrial air machine....runs relatively quietly, provides lots of air, and in the entire time I have owned it, have never done anything to it except change the oil and intake filter...and i use it...a lot...I bought it used for $900 it has been quite a good investment...If you are going to do body work continusly, buy a quality unit ...it pays in the long run

In today's dollar you are looking at a $3500 compressor. :D
