So I’m going to get a new bimini top made for the boat. I wondering about the mesh center that some have.

Does it let through a lot of sunlight?

Help with wind resistance much?

I’m thinking of going with Royal Blue in the sides with a grey center. Just not sure about mesh or not? Here is a picture of the boat.

Add it if you want to go faster than 30-35 with the Bimini up

I just replaced my mesh in the middle top , for a solid top . The mesh did let in too much sun . I'll trade a little slower speed for no melanoma . Found myself throwing towels on top of bimini when parked because of all the light it let in .

there's varying degrees (60, 80, 90, 95 % etc) of sunblock--aka- "shade factor" available. You tell the fabricator what shade factor % you want.

If you like shade then skip the mesh. If that is a 50 to 60 mph boat you are good to run at any speed with full canvas.

I've done the center mesh on three boats. It's the only way to go. The bimini rides much better when you are cruising. It doesn't billow or buck. Go with about 12-18" wide center strip of mesh with canvas on the sides. The shade is fine and it runs great.

I have mesh panels in mine, and it's Still a dam sail when the wind is up!

I don't think it makes one bit of difference as far as wind goes, but it sure does let the heat out when it's hot.

Go with full stainless, and you'll be able to go as fast as you want in the boat in the pic.

My boat is slow, max speak is like 45-50mph depending on the prop. LOL

My concern was more about the heat coming through. Thanks for the input everyone! I think I might go with the mesh. But maybe as someone mention have higher percentage shade factor.
