Can anyone suggest a reputable company for metal carports in the So Cal area?

I googled around and found plenty of options online and on Craigslist, but digging a little deeper most have mixed reviews at best.

Carport.com has one of the most professional sites and the most favorable online reviews, but still has lots of problems reported here - https://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/carportscom-c189.html

Would love the get some first hand recommendations, or maybe there is a member on board in the business?

FWIW - I don't mind doing the installation myself.

Thanks in advance.

I've had my carport from Carport.com for 6 years as well with no issues at all. I have even ordered some extra panels after the fact and all was good with that as well. I believe they are all manufactured by interstate carports.

Thanks guys...did you get the standard material, or the 12 gauge upgrade offered by Carport.com?

I live in a canyon and the winds whip when the Santa Anas are blowing...not sure how much strength the 12 gauge adds.

ask the supplier for their wind rating and make sure you anchor per their instructions.
I have a versa tube, it has 2x3 structure. They have 2x4 structure too.
I got a deal on mine because it wasn't conforming to set back lines, the dude sold the house and couldn't transfer ownership . Had to take it down but got it on sale!

I used Interstate Carports out of San Jacinto and they were good. They had good and bad reviews online. My neighbor just built 2 with United carports on Alessandro? In Riverside or Moreno Valley and he was happy with them too.

TTT for new recommendations.

Having a hard time finding a company with good reviews. Seems many are just re-sellers, with questionable customer service and installation crews.

I believe Versa-Tube is a manufacture that sells direct for owner (DIY) installations...but not offering quite what I'm looking for.

Any other factory direct options? I don't mind installing myself, but also happy to let a competent crew do the work.

Like I mentioned earlier, I got mine from Carports.com. Interstate Carports came and installed it. 7+ years and not a complaint.

Thanks for the photo.

Do you remember the sidewall height on that model? Also that looks like the standard roof? (i.e they offer the option of a side panel on the top of the wall for more shade, but doesn't look like you have that option...)

Absolute Steel in Phoenix AZ. Bought mine in 2004. 12' w x 16' at the peak x 32 long. FIL and I put it together in 2 days. It swayed and would creak in the wind but held up to some heavy winds. It is anchored to the concrete. Located in Havasu, sold the house several years to live in god forsaken Ohio. Good luck.

As stated above carports.com did mine and that includes the installation. Mine is fully enclosed 26'×46' with a 12' side wall height. Winds can blow pretty good out here in Acton and no issues in 6 years. I did build the front doors and installed the man door myself though.

Thanks for the replies.

For anyone else looking, here is what I have learned so far. There are several companies that all lead to the same place if you are in California.

Elephant Structures appears to be the parent (or East Coast) branch of the company. If you call them they will refer you to Carport.com

If you log onto Carport.com, they ask for your zip to provide pricing in your area.

If you are in California, Carport.com will assign your project to Interstate Steel Structures, Inc. in San Jacinto CA.

Not sure if Carport.com used another installer in the past, but Interstate Steel's (1) Star Yelp reviews don't exactly give you a warm and fuzzy - https://www.yelp.com/biz/interstate-carports-san-jacinto

I know Yelp can be a lot of whiny millennials, but then again, I don't think many millennial are buying carports :)

United Carports did mine a couple years ago. 20x50 carport, slab and concrete driveway. Turnkey. No complaints.

I just spoke with someone at United and their carports are rated for a 110 mph wind load. If you need engineering plans for a permit, there is an extra fee from the company.

Caport.com and Unitedcarports.com have an instant pricing tools on their websites. Just enter dimensions and options for pricing.

To the guys that already have carports. Does a 12' width give you enough wiggle room to back in a boat in the 25' foot range?

I know it depends on how much room to maneuver, and the driver, but just asking if it feels cramped?

One of the members (boatPI?) is starting an aluminum patio cover bus - I could see using some of his stuff to do a neat looking car port. Granted its nothing like the ones posted here but could be cool.

12 foot seems tight on my 40' 5th wheel. I wish I had done 14'.

The picture is from when it was first put up. You have to duck under the sides I would guess a little over 5’ as for the peak it is 7’. I put sun shade fabric down the sides. Have had it 6 years and still looks new.
