my wife and i have been entertaining the thought of taking a cruise for a while. neither of us have been on one, but we know some people who have. anyways, we are thinking about going on a cruise for our one year anniversay, but i know nothing about which cruise lines are good, which are bad, etc. the destination would end up being somwhere in the caribbean during july.

can anybody that has had experiences with cruise lines help me out and shed some light on to what i need to know?

thanks in advance:beer

Ya get what ya pay for.

For cheapie cruises:

We only do warm water ports, and Carnival was the ship with the most excitement and a pulse.

Nor Carrib was clean, but really sleepy and indifferent crew.

i believe wholeheartedly that you get what you pay for. that being said, i dont mind forking over some cash.....not a problem. what i want is a good time and a great experience. i dont want a schedule. i want to be able to do what i want when i want to do it.

i do know that there are some cruise lines that have designated eating times........ not my cup of tea.

where have you traveled to tpc?

I saw a thing on the news a week or two ago that showed people getting wild deals on cruises. With the poor economy, vacancy's were way down. Cruise ships don't like to sail half empty so they offer cut rates just to fill her up. I saw a family of four cruising for 550.

Funny Ratso, the broad lives in the next town over. She sells real estate and her picture pops up all the time on the ads.

I followed that story. She didn't look too bad, but then neither did Darlene Gentry... :hmm

Seemed like a cover-up on the part of the cruise line, and odd her disappearing during the night. Wasn't she supposedly banging one of the bartenders while her husband was "falling" overboard. Interesting story nonetheless...

Oh, and I wasn't meaning to jack this thread lol. It's just anytime I hear "Cruise"... this story comes to mind. I know of a couple in their 60s that have been taking two a year for the past ten years and love it...

All I remember is he went missing and there was blood.
Her family consists of a former mayor father, brother, retired bigshot cop, and the family real estate business.

My wife and i took a Carnival cruise a couple years ago.We both thought it was horrible, the food was barely edible and their idea of entertainment was a mens hairy chest contest in the middle of the day by the pool. Then some lousy comedians at midnite. Good thing we had a nice room . With the balcony room came priority boarding which was sweet, we had already settled in the room, surveyed the ship, ate and had a drink in our hand before the rest of our party boarded. There were some descent things to do at the port , tours, horseback riding etc... If I were to do a cruise again i would try Royal Carribian. I hear the food is good :)

Princess cruises are my favorite. We go every year. We just returned from the Carribean (eastern). There are nicer lines but you will pay. I really liked Alaska. All of them have been fun and everything is nice. I would agree cruise critic. Keep in mind that the cost of airfare, tips and alchohol are not included. To save money you can leave out of L.A.

Prices are very affordable. I would recommend a balcony midship.

Have fun

We went on a Carnival Cruise to the Eastern Carribean two years ago.

We had a blast. We upgraded our room to a balcony room with a king size bed.

I would do it again.

I have only been on one (Cribbean).

Do yourself a favor and pay the upgrade for the balcony room. We left a chair in the balcony door all night to hold it open and listened to the ocean waves all night. Sat on the balcony with our smuggled cocktails and watched the lightening storms off in the distance. It was awesome.

I would never cruise again without having a balcony room (night and day difference) My daughter had a room with a large window and didn't even realize we had a storm a couple of nights.

Book excursions in advance. Eat at the higher end restaurants at least one or two times. Sabatinis or the grill. This will be around 25 extra pp. but well worth it.

Go for walks around the deck perimeter on deck 7 outside. Fun and good for your marriage.

Being on a cruise ship is like being locked in a Las Vegas hotel. it's fun at first but gets old real quick. Same people milling around like cattle for days on end. You will be pissed when you find some great place and have to return to the boat. You would be better off flying into Cancun and heading south to an all inclusive.

Did the 3 day booze cruise last year on Carnival. It was a blast and I'd do it again. Food was good, participate in lots of stuff that goes on and it will be fun. Do get a room with a window at least! But with a balcony is best!

I've been on several cruises to the Caribbean. The cruises keep getting better, competing with each other to offer more stuff. Nothing wrong with Carnival right now. I don't get a big cabin, cuz I'm never in the cabin.

I've been on a few and it's a great way to vacation. You get to see a bunch of different places without having to pack and unpack, check in and out of a hotel, etc... It does suck when your at a great port and have to leave, but i just mark it down on a place to come back and spend a lot more time at. Here's my take on the three lines we've gone on:

Carnival: great for a quick 3 or 4 day to Mexico to PARTY. that is all that ship is about, drinking and partying. we had a great time, but that's what we went for. not the family vacation type... food was ok, but then again, anything would have tasted good after drinking vodka red bulls all day.

Princess: nice and clean ship, food was good, and service was great. the crowd was more of an older type, quite a few seniors, etc.. so it never got wild. maybe it was the time of year, we went on the east coast cruise during october, so the pool was dead. the ship didnt have a lot of recreational activites, but very relaxing time.

Royal Caribbean: this was the best, ship was clean, the food was excellent, and our service was the best we have ever had. good mix of peeps in their 20's,30's,40's that knew how to have a great time. we went on the eastern carribbean tour, bitchen by the way, the ship had a ton of things to do while on board, the pools were going off every day after we left port. they have a huge central plaza with shops, bars, and restaurants that was a cool place to go grab a drink, and people watch.

Were going back to the carribbean next March and are going on the Freedom of the Seas ship (Royal Carribbean).

Hope this helped, good luck and have fun....

PS and I'm not just saying this because my wife work's for the company, altough we do get the extra perks...wedge:D:D:D

Fuck Carnival!

R.C. and Princess were both very nice.

Bit of advice LOCK your LUGGAGE when you leave it out the night before disembarking or wheel it down yourself. F'ing theives will rifle through your shit like scavengers especially if they know your staying in the suites.

Have a great time all in all I love cruises.
