Wife wants LVP in the new addition and parts of the existing house. She's been to Floor and Decor and had picked out their brand of NuCore in a light gray. Now I'm reading some reviews and the most part they're negative with a lot of issues. I don't want to spend $7k+ on materials alone to have issues a few months or a couple of years down the road.
What's worked for the inmates that have had LVP installed? I've read good things about Proximity Mills, Shaw, Mohawk...

I installed my own LVP in my laundry room, and then did a nearby bathroom with F&D NuCore. I did the installation myself. That was more work than I thought, and I wasted a few sticks learning to cut it properly.

That paper cutter thing they sell sucks, I wound up treating the LVP like wood and using a circular saw and jig saw to make cuts. No idea if that’s the right way to do it.

For both I made sure I put down a foam core base that is supposedly waterproof, and I also did all the caulking around the perimeter of the laundry room and bathroom to keep water from seeping into the edges.

I don’t have giant sections of flooring in LVP but for small rooms, so far, it seems to be fine.

But yes, it’s expensive. And sometimes hard to buy more. I went back once and they had sold out of the type/color I had bought previously, I had to drive around to a few other locations to get what I needed.

Used it a lot in schools. Too soft, dirties fast, and hard to clean well. But….many manufacturers sell it so make sure you buy the good shit if you go with it and you’re like me….Research the shit out of it. Good luck bud

We just did Johnson Hardwood brand LVP everywhere except the bedrooms. It was highly recommended by the flooring store we went thru. Thicker top layer than what you can get at Home Depot or the like for better wear is what they said. Hope it's true.

My favorite is Provenza. They started as a wood flooring company and now take their best wood designs and transfer to LVT. They’re a West Coast company so their trends are on point for So Cal living. Get a decent thickness so it lays flat and covers any imperfections underneath. Be careful on the wear layer. More sounds better, but it seems to dull the finish.

PS. I prefer a beveled edge. Standard LVT can look a little like sheet vinyl.

Make sure it’s a 100 % water proof & want at least a 20 mil wear

lay down a pad below the LVP, softens the noise and feel on your feet - lay pad opposite direction for LVP

remove all base lay new LVP & install new base to capture the side edges

prior to laying check floor with a 6 ft straight edge check for humps and bumps mostly dips
patch with a feather patch

you can trim w/ a multi tool

Whatever you do and or choose. Please don’t go cheap. I have a few neighbors who do nothing but bitch and moan after telling what a great deal they got.
Yup.
For our garage conversion, the in-laws cheaped-out and got some $0.99/SF vinyl flooring that was basically a wood-colored sticker.

Looked like shit, made the crew tear it out after getting the bedroom done with it.

Then they bought some $1.99SF vinyl that wasn’t much better. Same deal, had the crew pull it up after doing the bedroom.

Now they “hate vinyl” and put tile in.

They would have been money ahead if they’d spent the money upfront on quality vinyl. We tried to tell them…they wouldn’t listen.

Im just finishing phase 3 of my home renovation and used Nu Core from floor and decor. Looks great and haven’t had any problems with the floor. Once you pick a color you can use the design app to see what it will look like in your home. This is a pic I took of my breakfast area and entered the floor into the picture.

We put it into our new home 9 months ago and have been very happy with it. I was concerned about installing a wood floor with our dog and the LVP has been indestructible. But it doesn’t have the same feel walking on it as a wood floor. In our case, we‘re happy with it and would do it again.

I did nucore in my home 3 years ago. We did it all ourselves. Definitely have extra material on hand. The tongue and groove are pretty delicate. Only complaint I have is that dents and scratches from chair legs or furniture moving are there to stay. If I were to to it today I would just bite the bullet and have real hardwood put down professionally. It has its place for sure.

I don't personally agree with LVP in homes that are over a certain value but hell, the new homes these days for $1.4-$4M use LVP and thermofoil cabinets so it's upside down world.

Also something I would like to stress is get a material pattern that doesn't have a center tone running down the length of the board. it creates a striping affect in photographs that I fking hate because it looks cheap. In person the striping is not nearly as apparent.

I will ask the tenant at one of our jobs today if I can go inside and get some pictures. Have seen a lot of issues with the lumber liquidators material. Not installed by us. In Parker nothing but problems with the lowes and home depot in store brands due to the heat.

When installing we always leave expansion gaps. Some say you don't need it with vinyl. In Parker I have never seen such bad buckling of a floors.

I forgot I had a account at Provenza but have not been there in about 5 years. Good stuff. Tried to open a account at Republic but you need 📸 of your store front to open a account.

Floor needs to be dead flat otherwise you have unsupported areas. The t&g will be stressed when it is walked on.

For cutting use a sharp blade and a straight edge to score. Snap like drywall and the cut thru foam backing. I also used an oscillating tool for cuts around doors etc.

Sometimes you cant hold it up at a 45 degree angle and the drop it in to place. Learn to shave off the locking lip and use clear gorilla glue. The clear doesnt foam. I would tape around where is use the clue. I do have a few shiny spots from a little glue residue.

This is the type cutter we use. I have a smaller one. But wider plank is more popular now. Still use a chop saw and table saw. But these speed up the process big time. By having it right next to you while installing.
