Just noticed that my ski i picked up in Havasu needs oil. It has never had anything but Yamalube. What’s a good equivalent. I am sure I cant find it in kingman. Need it for a trip tomorrow. I knew I should have grabbed a gallon from tech one while I was there. Dumbass 😁 .

Is this a direct injected deal or carbureted thing? If carb, any TCW3 is fine.

Is it oil injected? If so you will need to find something injector friendly as they are a little thinner. Torco-GP7 is pretty similar

I've always used Yamalube TCW3 spec. and never mixed in another brand. I suppose, if it meets the same spec, it shouldn't hurt anything.
Where are you going to ride it ? I'm guessing Needles, Bullhead or Havasu, since you can't ride Mohave or Mead with that oil burner ( Us neither), unless you're just going to roll the dice up at South Cove ? Let me know if you don't lose your ski, I'd like to go back to Mead 😂 I'm sure Bullhead Powersports has Yamalube.

If that is the case and he goes that route he needs to drain all existing fuel from the system as yamalube wont mix well with 927 as it is a castor base and yamalube is not.

Correct, I had to do this when I graduated from Maxima Super M. Miss my 2 smokers

If it were me and couldnt get the yamalube thar you normally use, I would use the Quicksilver. I know you can get that at the Walmart there.

I think that would be my choice, the Quicksilver Premium Plus TCW3 is synthetic as is the Yamalube. I'm sure Yamaha doesn't make it, just re-labeled.

i ride everywhere. But going south cove. noticed that tcw and found an equivalent. I should be grandfathered in. Don’t care if I’m not. I’m not buying a new ski. Love mine and it’s payed for. If they can catch me they can jave me. Thanks for the replies

You could also use the Amsoil Dominator but not the Amsoil Saber. The key is making sure its oil injection friendly. I run the Amsoil Saber in my dune toys but it would be to gummy for an injector set up. Imo

Back in the day we used to trailer up and launch our skis at Pierce Ferry and ride 30 + miles up into the Grand Canyon, sure miss those days. Then the huggers got that stopped, apparently a few jet skis might damage the canyon, ummmm yeah, that makes sense. 🤔
Would enjoy going up to South Cove, but wasn't sure how vigilant the Rangers are up that way and certainly don't want to lose our skis over it.

In the owner’s manual it says use yamalube only as anyth else will mess up catylitic converter. Sales ploy?

Oil injection is not the same as direct injection. Oil injection can run anything TCW3...direct inj. gets a bit more picky.
We run Walmart oil and arco premium in the race boat...works fine

once you go up a bit after sandy beach it low and brown/muddy. Creepy even with a ski. Once I’m not sure what’s underneath me I am out of there! Yes back a time in my boat went to and past iceberg canyon

You got a 1200 XLT ? Hopefully the Pennzoil is full synthetic like the Yamalube. I'm reading it's a blend.

Yes 1200. I am having second thoughts. May wait a week and buy the right stuff. Never ran anything but yamalube

I'm voting with you, I don't like the "Blend" aspect with the Cat Converter. Never tried, but I'd be a lot more comfy with the Quicksilver.

Sold on quicksilver. Sorry I opened pennzoil. Can’t return it to autozone. Plus is smells super bad. Like super duty hydro oil.

I run golden Spectro in my ski because it’s what I run in my dirtbikes and Vespa

Golden spectro is a decent oil. I just never liked the carbon build up on pistons that it creates. It burns too much and creates a build up on pistons and exhaust. That's just my experience.

Must have a Kingman neighbor with an older outboard fishing boat. 😁

That smell you smell in the oil is the plus and that is the cleaner to keep your 2-stroke clean. The Pennzoil Premium Plus is really good oil I run in my Mercury Racing Promax 225

120:1?! Damn that is lean! I run my outboard at just under 50:1 and the KX500 at 40:1. Never had a plug issue nor a seizure issue.
I ran Penzoil in my boat once. It smoked like RD at a garage party. Went back to good ol' Wally world TCW3 oil and not an issue. Even run it up about 7k too.

I run nothing but Pennzoil...got 16 gallons of it 8 years ago for $3/gallon on clearance. It works well. If it meets the TCW3 spec, it’s good oil. Color/smell/taste makes no difference.

Holy crap Golden Spectro is still around. We were running that stuff in the MotoX bikes in the late 60's. We ran Castrol R a bunch also before that. I don't think there was anything wrong with either but I do know Bel Ray was absolute shit.

That's pretty fricken lean!!!!!!

Amsoil saber. The oil in a 2stroke is not ment to burn, its ment to lubricate. Find the oil that burns the least and figure out the mix from there. And in all actuality it creates a "rich" condition not a "lean" condition. When someone talks "rich or lean" it refers to fuel not oil!

I had to use Quicksilver in my vintage Husqvarna and Suzukis once and the bikes hated it. No weekend bike shops in Blythe apparently.

When you say that I assume it was pre-mixed, not injected. I could see that as Quicksilver is an injector oil..

When it has rained heavily the day before, and your boys want to ride, well desperate times call for desperate measures.

Oh fuck me I remember those goddamn things now....You have one that still runs? There is a delete kit for the "cat" which is actually more like a particulate filter that has been out for years. Pennzoil will be fine as it is ester based and burns very clean. Absolutely no Klotz, Spectro, Merc oils, or any of that dirt bike shit.

That's Pennzoil is well liked in the 2 stroke OB community and tear downs have proven it's good shit. I ran every brand in my old carbd boat and ended up running the Pennzoil more often than not. I'm a oil need and ran that shit out of my motors with it worry free.
