My kid who is 13 loves the the Cops and goes to as many Cop events as possible. He spends hrs and hrs at these events and talks with the Cops. He wants to be a Cop. A few days ago me and my son were coming home from a fun day at the National Forest in Northern Idaho. It was about 4 pm and we were driving along and I got pulled over. This is not my first time getting pulled over with him the car. So I tell him once again this is what you do when you get pulled over. Place both your hands on the steering wheel and look the officer in the eye and answer all questions honestly. The officer walks up to the passenger window and says do you know why I pulled you over. I said yes sir I was going kind of fast. He said yes, you were really cooking along.
I was going 60 in a 45 and I knew it. He asks me for my Drivers license and I say it is in my back pocket in my wallet is it OK if I get that? Yes go ahead and get it for me he says. I give it to him and he says I will be right back and goes back to his car. My son says " You probably will get a ticket huh dad?" I said yeah probably because I was going way over the speed limit. We wait a few minutes and he comes back and says to my son. I recogonize you. My son yes and I recogonize you also. I talked with you at the Fair over the summer. The officer says I remember talking with you also. He hands my drivers license back and says please slow down and and drive safe. I said Yes sir I sure I will. And I have slowed down. I think he gave me a break because my son is always nice and talks with the Cops.
Here he is in a cop car learning all about the Cop Car.

Your young man will NEVER forget that interaction! It will be cemented in his brain forever. If he is lucky, with the support of his family, he will make his dreams a reality. We need fine young men like him to do a thankless job. ❤️

Thin blue line starts earlier. Good on your son. He seems well grounded at a young age.

That was me at his age. There was nothing anyone could say to get me to change my mind about getting into that profession. It’s also how my 18 year old has been for years.

Good job, Dad.. seems like you’ve done great with that one.

Same for me. I knew very early on what I wanted to be and I was going to do that no matter what. I know I’m lucky because I found my calling and lived my dream job, not everyone gets to do that.
