Bought 20 ea 5 gal VP 101 cans.
Loading them into the truck something didn’t seem right.

I started measuring them out blending 3 VP 101 gallons to 2 gal 91 pump gas.
Came to discover only 4 gallons in each 5 gals of VP 101.

A family driving by our camp site noticed our cans and mentioned they experienced the same.
At almost $13 per gal I’m out $260.

So I call the distributor and they blame VP in Texas until I bring up that it’s they the distributor that cans the gas from bulk and the problem is with them right there in Van Nuys Calif.

Then they said sometimes the metering gets out of calibration and I call them out and said you fill the cans by weight. Ain’t no meters involved.

Then they back up and admit they are aware of the problem. “Stop by and they’ll spot me a pail.”

Fuck them I call VP in Texas and they were real interested. I told them the whole story, they threw our some lame excuse and I called them out too.

I then mentioned Calif Weights and Measures, the section that regulates fuel measurements has received a complaint.
They said they’ll get back to me.

Then I got a text from Maynard that a rep from The States Weights and measures was at the door.
I gave to ok to take one of the 5 gal cans.

So heads up if you buy VP race gas.
Maybe to be continued.

13 a gallon ... wow I pay much less then that at Dion and Sons in Long Beach for F&L SP1 (108). And they fill them right in front of me.

evap or temperature. i know theres an expansion ratio for gasoline, I dunno about 1/5th of a can though... that seems like someone was told to do a low pour.

They fill my cans to the top. The plastic thingies pop up when they sit in the sun.

The jugs are net capacity 5.5 to allow for expansion.

I usually buy it out of the pump in Parump at about $7.50 a gal.
Bought cans this time around for the dirt.

Sealed cans. Tighter than whale pussy and that’s water tight.
If it’s old enough to evaporate exactly one gallon we have another issue.

That is were I was heading. I know the blue cans are tight so figured either intentional or old fuel.

I used to run C12 in all my race bikes purchased from Downs Energy and never had an issue.

Navy wives work part time here for a few extra bucks so I tip heavy and they pour heavy.

Actually if they siphoned some out and it was missing that would be better than it being replaced with water or another filler to make it look full.

Kind of like dad always finding out when we stole his liquor and replaced it with water. He always figured it out.

Interesting how the error in always in their favor and never extra. Smells like employee theft. Isn't that the same as avgas?

With that kinda number TPC, why aren't you buyin drums? Ease of transport, moving to other cans?

Cheaper by the drum isn't it?

Hmmmm. I've been buying C23 and Q16 for quite some time and never had a problem from Dion and Sons. I've been paying around $90 a 5gal pail for Q and a touch over $100 for C23.

If they are short pouring one would think takingta little hear and there to avoid something like this. Removing 20% of the volume is pretty damn obvious

Id be worried the content in those cans are not what they are supposed to be either....
Yep that’s called “brewing a cocktail.”
Wouldn’t be surprised.

You put it the correct hands. From my experience, The Dept. of Weights and Measures don't fuck around.

That’s such a let down. The reason I buy VP C12 or C16 is to assure the correct octane especially when I’m mixing it with AV gas or whatever. If the measurements are wrong or the octane isn’t right that could be a huge mistake. As expensive as VP fuels are that’s absolute bullshit. C16 is 17 a gallon. [emoji51]

I buy the same thing - F&L SP1 by the 55 gal drum (Usually 2-3 a year) and have never had issues.
I will only use Amber Racing Service out of Long Beach (They have other will call locations) for my race gas needs.

Yep and when I called out the boss at the distributor they had a fairytale and smokescreen all rehearsed.

You guys would be proud of me. I stayed focused, on point and had good come backs and handled it in good faith keeping my cool.

All I expect is the State will fuck with them and maybe they will go legit.
But I’m out $260 and That’s that.

If you see a gas station selling VP in cans beware.
Local Yami dealer quit selling because of customer complaints. Dunno know yet what those complaints were but I’ll check closer.
I ain’t the only one that got fucked but I have the satisfaction of taking it to the next level.

I bought one of the kids an expensive bike once.
The brakes failed immediately and miserably and were a bad design. The bike shop told me to pound sand the Mfg the same.

Well, the Consumer products safety commission was real interested especially when you check the child’s toy box, child injury and send a copy of the ER room report. It created a fuckshow for them that was a colossal payback. A story I’ll one day post. A response I never dreamed would happen. Brutal response by the feds.

Don’t let the fucks stick it to you, fuck them back with the system.

I get 55 gal drums of Sunoco 110, sometimes they are a little lite, by maybe a half gallon to 3/4 of a gallon per drum. They tell me it's a volume thing with the temperature. Dunno if it's true or not. Also, I think you guys over pay on that side of the border. Jus sayin...

Sucks to hear Ross. Do you use the 110 mix in the X3? You have an Evo tune right?

I store my Race gas in plastic jugs and over the summer some does evaporate but no where near a gallon.

These guys are straight ripping you off especially if it's a sealed pail. Those cans are sealed tight.

Hang on to the cans as evidence until the state finishes their investigation and then return them and get your money back.

Screw then back, lieing Fsticks

it's been going on for years, we used to weigh each can before paying for them.

The wholesale transaction for gas is based on a 60 degree temp. This is based on volume and not weight. As the temp goes up you get less gas due to expansion. The example I saw used the a 90 degree gas temp or a 30 degree delta t. In that example you are getting only 98 percent of the gas versus the 60 degree gas.

On the wholesale level the buyers and sellers make an adjustment to compensate for thermal expansion. A tanker with 10,000 gallons would have a price adjusted to pay for 9800 gallons. This doesnt happen at the retail level.

For the gas cans in question it would matter at what temp the gas was canned at. If the gas was warmer when used there would be more gas by volume, not weight, in the cans. You are looking at about 1% expansion or contraction for every 15 degree difference in temp from when compared to when it was pumped.

Haven't had the need to purchase C-16 in a couple years. After reading this, I don't think I can afford to run it in the next project...anyone know the going price on methanol? Was already debating an E85 motor...just for dragstrip/ cruisenight duty.

We have a distributor up here in Hesperia that has Sunoco 110 by the gallon, I pay about 45 bucks for a full 5 gallon jug. They have a flow meter on the pump and my can is dead on the 5 gallon mark.
