That will be fun. Take the ferry over to Cozumel they have great snorkelling I heard. Didn't get a chance to this trip. Next June I think we will head over to Cozumel

I just got back from a family trip to Cancun last Saturday. It was our first time in Cancun. We stayed in the Royal Sands in the hotel zone. The resort was beautiful, but didn't offer the amenities we are accustomed to in all inclusive resorts. When we go back we will stay in Playa Del Carmen. We did various off resort tours. Day trip to Isla Mujeres and rented a golf cart, Xplor, and Coba a Mayan Temple. Then we went to a cenote (underground pool). That was the highlight of the trip. If you plan on going, definitely tour some cenotes. There are thousands of them. The tour operators should be able to help finding the really nice ones. I've never seen water so clear, and I've dove on the great barrier reef, so that's saying a lot. I think its because it is fresh water and the one we visited was completely underground.
