On Tuesday, I ordered 2 Optima marines batteries and 1 dual port trickle charger. (Over $900) That is 3 items total. (Should be 3 boxes)

Yesterday my 3 packages arrive. However, since I live in a high rise condominium, the 3 packages were signed for by my concierge. When I go to pick up my 3 boxes from the mail room, I have the trickle charger and 1 battery, and 1 box of (5) cheap moving boxes in a single box. Obviously, we did not order a box of moving boxes. However, the moving box has an Amazon sticker on it that matches the sticker on the other battery, basically stating that it is the other battery. It also says that the package weighs 42lb’s, but it is not even close to 42 pounds. But it is large, since it’s a box of moving boxes.

Obviously, I call Amazon customer service. They basically accuse me of trying to scam Amazon out of a battery. They also say they won’t help me unless I have a Police Report. So my wife and I call the Broward Sheriffs Dept. They arrive at my condo at 10pm last night. They inspect my packages and come to the same conclusion……… somebody at Amazon switched a $330 battery for a $10 box of boxes.

I am not sure what I am going to do. Now that I have a police report, Amazon will now start an investigation, which should take 3 weeks or longer. I cannot go that long. I currently have dead batteries in my boat and I am not taking the boat out until I have replaced the batteries.

Should I buy another Optima battery while I wait? My only fear of doing this is I will end up with an extra battery that I do not need or want to store. I don’t want to loose boating time either.

Have any of you ever had a problem similar to this?

What would you do?

I would buy another battery and go boating. I would also file a claim with my credit Card company I used on Amazon. They should credit you and force Amazon to prove what you are saying isn’t correct.

That is actually a common scam at Amazon, I had just heard about it a couple of days ago. The other thing I was told that is happening is with knock off goods, my brother buys a nutrient powder (like an AG1) kinda thing, well apparently people are swapping the real stuff for cheaper knock off powder but charging for the real deal

This is why I stopped buying expensive stuff of Amazon.

I got screwed during a return. Sent in 300 dollar headphones and I was told that I didn’t send the right item.

I’m suspecting an Amazon employees took it.

Support your local parts house
I literally told my son that yesterday in regards to some motorcycle parts I needed. An hour later I bought an inner tube and an air filter for the wife's TTR230. Apparently. $25 for each. OK.
Then I had to order the fork seals. $50 !!!
NOT OK. Nobody makes aftermarket for these bikes and OEM is nuts. Guess I'm not giving any money to the service depth. and I'm gonna have to bust a tire myself. 😡

Go to the vendors comment section and put them on blast. It will get resolved. Amazon is just a fullfilment house and could care less.
They delivered a huge exercise machine to me. I didn't order it they said keep it. LOL.

Order the new one and after their investigation return the one one you never received. They should contact you before they send it and that’s when you ask for the refund.

I’ve actually have had good luck with Amazon. We’ve had a couple items show shipped & delivered but haven’t received. Called customer service and every time they’ve credit us back with no questions asked. I will say it hasn’t been perfect. Every one in a while the delivery driver will deliver our package to the neighbors door and will get theirs.

Normally...

The driver will take a pic of the items delivered.

Did he do that?

It will be in your account under:

Order Details → Track Shipment

The other thing you need to do is to CONTACT THE SELLER.

Amazon doesn't care if you're happy or not! But the seller will...

File a dispute with your credit card company. They will credit your account immediately and then do an investigation of their own. With the police report it seems to be a slam dunk and the reversal will stand.

No better evidence you didn't receive the second battery than ordering another, I'd think.

That and returning the box of moving boxes.

Some odd ordering restrictions but otherwise mostly fine deliveries.
The other day I needed two of the same items which had a 5% discount...but then I read it only discounted one item per order. Changed qnty to one, placed order. Then ordered another 10 seconds later & got discount. 🤷‍♂️Well of course they both came in the same box😂😂🤣.

Yeah, I'd bet few people will bother getting that Popo report for amazon. But I get it, I posted in another thread about how their loose return policies can/will be what could lead to their demise.

I am amazed that you actually got someone on the phone, I’ve always used the built-in return/problems deal in the app and never had a problem working out issues.

I try to buy local when possible, even if it's a local big box since I know it's going to support local employees. I do overpay for guitars and parts from my local Guitar Center because I like having that store local, and it's a nice place to go f around while the wife and kids are shopping...

Biggest pet peeve with Amazon is the bad shipping dates, they hit their dates with me about 70 - 80% of the time, and I'm not in some rural farm country in the middle of nowhere. I really don't absolutely need my fridge water filter tomorrow or even the next day or the day after that, but if you tell me that it's coming tomorrow, then dammit, deliver it tomorrow...!

Yea as another said you need to watch who the seller is now on Amazon. Read the reviews Amazon is just delivering what the seller is pushing. I would not put it all on Amazon. I have only used the chat to return items and have not had an issue.

Does your concierge area have a camera? Would it show delivery? The manner in which a person carries a 42lb battery will be different than a box simply filled with boxes.

If you want a high likelihood that the item you are saving money on is a fake... buy it from Amazon.

What’s the return policy for Batteries ? I know Amazon has a 30 day return on most everything and if the battery is under that time frame and if they do sent you another one sent it back for your return in the mean time go by another battery

I count myself lucky, I guess. I buy tons of shit on there and have never really had an issue. I did order a Ski Doo helmet a few years ago and it showed up with a couple of small scratches. I sent them a pic and they sent me a new one and told me to keep the scratched one. That thing was almost $500!

If someone signed for the delivery, and that someone works for the building management company, wouldn’t the building management company then be responsible for the missing item(s)? Or is there some kind of agreement that “we’ll sign for anything but we’re not responsible for anything” ?

It’s hard to respond to each question and comment. So this will answer some questions.

When Shlbyntro first recommended the specific batteries and trickle charger, I called my local places. They would have had to order them too. None had the 2 port Noco trickle charger.

To ad to the above, when I ordered from Amazon, my car and golf cart were not working. So that truly made the decision to have batteries delivered easier. As a side note, when I made my order on Amazon, it told me that my order would be delivered this coming Tuesday. So I was quite surprised to find out that they had been delivered Friday, yesterday.

Unlike other Amazon orders we have done, I got an additional email stating that the batteries will need to be signed for. The only other time that has happened is when I ordered a 85” tv delivered.

We have a high quality camera system where I live and getting video from multiple angles of the delivery is no problem whatsoever. I just hope it doesn’t go that far.

Our concierge is not responsible. We do not inform building management whenever we are expecting packages. The mail room looks like a FedEx/UPS store. We get multiple package deliveries every day, by every major shipping service. Christmas looks insane! What building mgmt does do is mark your packages in large black marker your unit number, the packages are also put in unit order so that it is easy to find your packages and saves a lot of time, by not have to go through all the packages. They are already sorted.

My current plan is to dispute the charges with my CC company.

I am also going to contact the seller. I did not do this before. I only contacted Amazon. (I think Rivermobster gave this advice)

This has really become a pain in the ass. Exacerbated by the fact that it’s a beautiful boating weekend with a lot going on! The boat show being the main attraction. Had I received my correct order last night…….. my boat would already be fixed, and I would be cruising Fort Lauderdale right now, instead……… I am typing this thread response!

I am probably going to “Clock In” and get started drinking!

Sellers have learned their is little if any recourse for screwing the customer.
We buy two of something,, only one item eventually shows up, but charged for the two.
The Amazon system doesnt rectify this and the vendors can tell you to pound sand.

Personally, I don't like optima. I buy my batteries from Costco....good return policy and I can see the date codes. I literally just bought a battery for my wife's BMW two days ago.

Return all 3 boxes down at your local UPS with matching Amazon labels for a full refund.
Dispute with your card company.
Bash said company on yelp if you feel it’s their issue.

I have heard if you dispute on CC Amazon can or will cancel your account. Maybe case by case.
