I heard Walmart and Target threw away all the plastic bags they had in inventory so they could start charging for paper bags...which the stores get to keep. :finger

You can still get plastic, they just can't give them away anymore.
The wife came home the other day with some heavy duty bigger than normal plastic bag. Thick plastic like you get at a department store.

They'll reuse a few times before showing wear. We have real reusable bags but we forget them more often than not. I suspect we'll get better are remembering now.

WTF are you talking about Chief...fill us F tards in..

Kalifornia tree huggers some how voted to ban all of those thin plastic plastic bags you put your groceries in...we now have to bring our own bags, pay .10cents per bag or just throw that shit in the cart like I did last week. The stupid fukin checker at Albertsons bagged all my shit last week in paper and then proceeded to charge me .10 for each bag. I looked at the receipt as I was getting ready to push the cart away and told him I want my money back for the bags and to shove them up his ass for not asking me before hand. He proceeded to remove everything from my cart as everyone in line watched in disbelief. Fuk them, I'm not paying for that shit... :finger

You can buy the bags from places like Smart and Final for about $40 a thousand. I may get some just to piss off the enviro by bringing in my own throw away bags

$30.00 for 1000 from Amazon. Done did already! [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

The stupid thing is, well there's lots, is I'm more apt to re-use the plastic bags as opposed to the paper ones. Paper bags take up a lot more room than plastic and they're going straight into the garbage.
Fuck CA! [emoji867][emoji867][emoji867]

All these new heavy duty "reusable" bags at the grocery store are going to end up getting thrown away - now we are filling the land fills with MORE PLASTIC!!!

Another stupid law with unintended consequences- they try to reduce plastic bags but hey end up with plastic bags that have three times the plastic them ending up in dump site

I just tell the cashier no bags and have them fill the cart back up. I unload everything in boxes in the car I get from Costco. Little more work, but screw them. Not paying for anymore shit.

They can't. Part of the law is any bag used from the store with handles (paper or "reusable" plastic) must be charged a TAX of $0.10. There is a system in place to verify the tax is collected for each bag.

Our county has had this for 4 years now.

The chick at Target asked if I wanted her to put my stuff in bags yesterday. I looked at her with a straight face and said, no just throw it in the cart, I'll put the whole cart in the back of my truck and take it home.

She bought it, so the look on her face was worth the $0.30 I paid for the bags...

I just realized most grocery stores ask if you'd like help out. Of course we always say no thanks. Maybe we should say yes, actually, we would like help out. Without bags of course. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

They sent all those to other markets outside Ca. and now have thicker heavier plastic bags that they say you can reuse many times for .10c each.

The issue is that single use plastic grocery bags are not biodegradable. Paper is. The heavy duty bags are not intended to be single use, you can reuse them many times. This law has been in place in most heavily populated counties in CA for many years. Simply buy reusable bags. Like the heavy duty ones with a zipper and insulation. It amazes me that you will cut off your nose to spite your face. I bought 5 of those really nice zippered insulated bags off Amazon like three years ago for maybe $25, but the suggestion is to buy $40 worth of single use bags and continue to just throw them away? Hey, knock yourself out and don't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back about figuring out the least effective way to attack a problem.

I don't think anyone has an issue with plastic or paper bags...the issue is, the state directing stores to charge for them.

Remember - paper bags used to be free, but we had to "save a tree" so everything went to plastic. Which was also free.

Now plastic is polluting shit, so we're back to paper. But like every liberal agenda item, there has to be a monetary cost/tax for something that's been free for decades.

Like posted earlier - just raise the price of everything by a penny and make the damned bags "free".

When San Luis County did this 4 years ago there was A LOT of backlash like this. Then everybody got used to it and it's really not that big of a deal anymore. BTW, the Costco insulated bags are the shit! They are huge and awesome for like $7!

I don't understand why you all are pissed off at the stores. They don't like this anymore than you do.

I am pissed bc paper bags were free the Monday before the election. Wednesday morning after the election they are .10 cents. Total BS to charge just because the other option is no longer available

The price of the bag is already in the price of the products, has been for years.

If you want to use an economic signal to change behaviour it needs to be more than $0.10 though. So the way I look at it, this is a money maker for the state more than doing anything about any problem.

It's a "problem" that did not exist.

I've got a couple of liberal relatives (Wife's side :D) that are always hounding me for FREE avocados (Go figure :rolleyes)

In the past I've always used these single use bags that I've collected (Oh wait, use more than once, absurd) for distributing the avos.

So for a chosen few, I'm going to start charging them for the bags :eek Damn, this will be fun :D

I won't even give them the option of bringing their own bag, it's buy my bags, or no avos :D

The bags are the same not any thicker for $.10. Liquor store said he might start charging now that it is law. I told him with no bag I might just pop the top and start drinking it on the way out the store.

Its kinda funny how this new law has some of you up in arms....
It almost sounds like your candidate lost the elections[emoji23] I'm sure you could hire some protesters to make your point.

New law.? Didn't this originally go into effect in 2014. Then they had a re-vote. I know the Vons in Mammoth has been charging for bags. Thats why I use the carry tote for my groceries when Im there. :)

New law statewide. Certain cities already had it. DelMar here in San Diego County has had it for a while.

Well you just said it. "After the election". Blame the voters, not the store employees. They have to pay the same price when they go shopping also. ;)

I don't get pissed at the checkout folks, they did not make the decision they are just following policy. Multiple HS kids in the band work checkout at my local Vons and I actually have told a few people not to give the kids a hard time about it.
I did ask the store manager why paper bags were free Monday and now .10 cents Wednesday after the election. His response, corporate policy to charge for bags now. I asked if it did not pass then would paper bags continue to be free and he said yes. I don't agree with making money now that no one has an option (one time I will say corporate greed).

Its a new inventory item they will have to record sales of and likely only get a fraction of the proceeds from.
