I was going to post this yesterday but was hesitant. We do haul for this crane company from time to time. I have a grainy video of it coming down as it was lifting a panel with what looks like a 16 point rig.

What company?
Many crawlers go over from bad ground or not enough matting
Judging from what looks to be recently placed fill across the site, you're probably correct.

That’s what they are saying. Supposedly they were on their way to check it out before it flipped. A couple of my apprentices are there and the tilt companies main office is around the corner from my house

Good thing everyone is still breathing, the oiler broke his leg and I belive the operator got banged up. Panels are no joke, that override key get turned pretty often on these jobs...being out of chart is the norm doing tiltups.
The over ride key is different in a Liebherr. It's not just throwing a switch. I will leave it at that. Again, very lucky no fatalities
Panels are no joke. The sail area is massive. A gust of wind and it sways like you wouldn't believe. There are 800 ton crawlers lifting 505k lb panels now. They are massive. It's wild.

These guys are my customers and very professional. A feel really bad for them.

What is an over ride and what does it do? I operate equipment, mostly backhoes but never a crane so I'm curious.

I don't see it hooked to a panel...

Craig,

I was stalking you other other day... you popped up on my LinkedIn feed and I had no idea it was you. Congrats on the sale for the big crane.

Glad to hear it was "just" a broken bone. With what sounds like a damn big panel and a lot of boom coming down that's a good outcome.

Hope he heals quickly.

I run a heavy gang crew for DWP where we install structures and pull wire all the time. These structures are 124’ to the static peaks. We run 100T for the main columns and 175T to set bridges. I enjoy seeing all the big stuff on this thread!

Do you know what voltage the 9400 E requires? It must be a large number, the cable is remarkably small.

Thanks for sharing the photos. They're impressive. I like the photo platform set up inside the Komatsu shovel's bucket. It's a big MF'er!
If that's the charging cable, for sure, I just figured it was to power up the screens and controls for the show.

Appears it's 6,600 VAC @ 50hz, at least the one converted to an "E" in Australia was ----
Good article here ---

This article on what seems to be the same converted 9400 to an "E", provides additional information regarding the Hydrogen Fuel Cell system used to power the excavator and it's unique "Reel" system for providing the 6,600 Volts. In other words, this does not appear to be a charge it and run it system, but continually powered by constant external generation. It does however mention outputs for charging battery modules ?? I just scanned it, will read it more carefully as time allows.

The way it was explained to me is the power cable has a tension winch on it so it won't get run over. After four scoops you have to move

So it does require constant outboard power from the Fuel Cell or other means of generation ? 6,600V is some serious voltage to be running on even a fancy extension cord.

This particular unit is constant power. Big in Australia from what they said

I thought the im-ming.com article utilizing the portable fuel cell power source as a constant was most interesting.

The 100 ton Marion Power Shovels clearing spoils in the four Hoover Dam three mile long 56' diameter penstock and diversion tunnels ran on 2,200 volt power provided by cable. They worked twenty hours a day, with four hour maintenance intervals.

Marion also built the huge crawler-tansporters that carried the Saturn V and the Space Shuttle from the Vehicle Assembly Building 4.2 miles to Launch Complex 39.

Consider the contrast in technology between the completion of Hoover Dam in 1935 and the landing of men on the moon in 1969, thirty four years later.

There are people in this country that claim American exceptionalism is a lie.

Check out this Caterpillar rail charging system for its electric prototype mine haul truck.
