not mine this time....I heard a car alarm go off last night, but decided I didn't care and rolled over and went back to sleep. Having my morning coffee I hear a car start outside that's missing a vital exhaust component....I walked outside to see a woman standing next to a late model Corolla. I walked over there and asked if it happened last night or if the car had been parked there a while. She said "It was quiet yesterday....this just happened this morning". I explained that her cat was stolen, to which she replied...."no, that's not possible, I had it painted".

Once again, I was left speechless.

It's everyday here in lomita. They do nothing about it as far as trying to catch them. Every few months they offer free etching.

I had the sheriff out when mine got stolen. Neighbor watched the end of it as he walked out when he heard it. Sheriff tells me. I have personally wrote over a 100 of these reports this year. Then tries to shift the blame on me when I say it wasn't etched when he asked. Goes on to tell me how he pulled 1 guy over. Car matches the description of the thief. Pile of cats in the car and a Sawzall on the front seat. The caller couldn't identify the perp. So he released him with the stolen cats. Then tells me. If they were etched I would of arrested him.

Just had rain gutters installed the other day. They stole his while he was on backside of a house middle of the day.

They stole his rain gutters?.....that's awesome. You should swing by and ask if he had them etched

I'd like to know if he checked every cat in the truck for VIN etchings....I'll bet he didn't. I'll also bet that next to the sawzall was an angle grinder to grind off any etching....it's what I would do if I was a thief. Then there's no victim, so there's no crime.

Shoot 'em with a revolver so you don't drop brass

You want mine? I don’t need them anymore.
you will once you smell the stank. I fired up my truck in the driveway after rebuilding the steering column before putting the exhaust back together....reminded me of TJ.

I'm sorry Buddy. That's just a lazy fucking cop who didn't do his job for whatever reason. That guy's excuse is about as weak as it gets. That type of attitude and laziness pisses me off and makes everyone wearing a badge "Look bad." 👎

Need to start a business making cat replacement pipes. Kinda like the "test" pipes back in the day. Just remove the cats and put them in the garage and swap them back in when the smog time comes around again. If the cops ask what happened to the cats, Preventive anti theft.

Neighbors car has been hit 3 times, and she lives and parks on Studebaker so it's not like a side street, other neighbor owns allied muffler, so we had him put cages on a few of our rigs, haven't got hit yet.

Except you'll end up in prison probably for making and providing "emissions system tampering" devises.

Its fun living in CA where law abiding citizens trying to come up with solutions to problems the police refuse to handle get treated like criminals more than the criminals themselves.

A sad state of affairs. If the police did their jobs and the DA did theirs, then there wouldn't be this workaround.

There are a lot of folks out on patrol who DO do their jobs, and do it well. There are also FANTASTIC D.A.'s who carry out their duties as well, and aid in prosecuting these criminals. Nic's experience isn't a common one. It's extremely unfortunate that him and his fellow community members are being provided with such lackluster service by their law enforcement personnel.
