Hi all can any one help with details on 6 drives

I belive there is a wet sump and a dry sump 6 drive.

I am told that there is 2 types of transom housings, one type is called a plug in ( this type does not bolt up directly to the transmission ) ????

also the is another type is called ???? and has a flange for the transmission to bolt up to (eg a velvet drive would have a flange or donught that bolts them together) ??
Also told that a NXT and a NXT 6 and a M8 share the sames transom assembly.

So can any one tell me if the dry sump and wet sump drives will bolt up to any transom housing ?
Also do they still make #6 wet sump drives

thanks JIMBO

I'm not sure about the different types of drive coupling styles, but i believe the 'Wet Sump' #6's were only the early generations, for the most part all of them that you will find now are going to be dry sumped, The oil pump is in the nose cone and drives off the prop shaft. I think they both will mate up to the same gimbal housing. But don't quote me on it.

Hey Jimbo,
There is the wet sump, which no longer is made, and the dry sump...The wet sump uses almost all of the same internals as the dry sump, minus
the oil pump and sprayers for the upper gears. The wet sump are like a bravo, which are full of oil (approx 4 Gal) and require a reservoir in the
engine bay (usually on the inner transome ring). The Merc dry sump holds approx 1 1/4 Gal of oil...
The plug in version has a tail stock that bolts directly to the trans and plugs into the gimble...The drive shaft version has the flanges to use a drive shaft. The NXT, 6, and 8 have the same bolt pattern for the gimbles...
We have the plug in version on the Cig and they are wet sumps....
Hope this helps....couple pics....

For trannys I am running BAM Super Cyborg dry sumps also without issues.

Have you checked Offshore Only for 6 drives for sale, there is usually a few for sale along with a good selection of props. As said Vern at West Coast would be a good source for drive also.
