Mercury 496 Mag Cooling Question

Might be a dumb question but it's worth a shot... Has anyone removed their closed cooling system off a 496 and convert to raw water cooling?
If so, are there any benefits/disadvantages?

No benefits to removing it. All disadvantages.

I wouldnt do it. Volvo made a raw water cooled version but there is absolutely no benefit other than about 20Lbs of weight savings

Received, thank you all. My thought process was due to the possibility of the heat exchanger going bad, I have heard they can get pretty pricey.

extremely unlikely. In the hundreds if not thousands I have worked on, I have only ever see one bad one and it was because it was full of water and it froze. I suppose salty ones may be more at risk but even still, I would say extremely unlikely
