Anyone have the skinny on these motors. Seems like they should be rock solid checvy small blocks, I had heard certain installation having problems (mainly cruisers and v-drives?) but also reports of breaking pistons and/or rods in cylinder #5 and #6.

I've done some googling and the limited info I found seems indicate a lot more 6.2 problems than with the stock Merc 5.7 and 383 crate motors.

Anyone have the scoop?

I had the 6.0 in the Ultra and it was great. It was a 2004, I sold it last year and never had an issue. Pushed the 21’ jet to 58, good pull out of the hole pulling skiers and was super easy on fuel.

Dad had one in his 21 Shockwave skier. Ran like a raped ape. Never skipped a beat. Just under 60mph with a 1.62 B1 forget what prop.

I have two boats and each one has two 6.2's. I love them.
The Hallett 270T has twin Mercruiser Scorpion 6.2's and I now have about 525 hours on them and they have been totally trouble free and just sip gas (like 6-8 GPH total for both engines). The only service problem I have had is one ignition module failed.
My other boat is a Eliminator 26' Dayton with twin Mercruiser 6.2's (Black motors). Also trouble free with about 250 hours on them now. Also just sip gas.
I would strongly recomend them.

Awesome motors. I have one in my 23’ boat, runs great. Boat does 60 with the Bimini up, full of gas and my family in it. It does about 65 in perfect conditions.

It will likely have a 1.62 drive, and a 22-24 pitch prop if the boat is in the 21-24 foot range.

My friend has 800+ hours on his, no issues.

Thanks for the replies.

Did a little more googling and at least some of the MX 6.2 problems reported were due to "improper exhaust angle", per Mercury, which I think means reversions was taking place.

Otherwise hard to understand why the 6.2 wouldn't be solid.
