No wonder so many New Yorkers are moving to Florida…….. There’s more than a 50 million dollar spread on the lump sum payout.

Florida…… $304 Million
New York… $251 Million

I've been buying lotto tickets for over 50 yrs. Won $10-20 maybe a dozen times, highest ever was $40 just last year.
Had much better luck in Reno in 1974, $820 with a $1 ticket ,playing 5 spot on Keno. 15 spot was worth 25K back then.
These mega jackpots are a scam, drumming people up to a frenzy to make more money.
However, I have three friends, winning pretty good here in Canada. One, back in the 80's won around $700k out of a $10 mil with a pool group. Next friend also got lucky with a group at her work, 1.4 mil ea, and the last one won 16 mil with a single ticket. two years ago.

The odds are way against you, but someone’s got to win. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lotteries are a tax on people who are bad at math.

😁

I bought a ticket also...

I'm sure I'll get some hate on this but, it's a another tax. You can guarantee that 50% of what ever you spend on the tickets goes to taxes. Just on principle that's why I'll never buy one.

I play here almost weekly. Won $600, $1k, and $100 a few times. Mostly free tickets and $20 wins though. Last week was $55 in wins. I'll get a few Mega's this week. Why not it is only a few bucks and if you win. Will be epic. No state income tax in WA, so Id only pay 30% federal.

So some other "Random" person will be the sole winner here... Think about it... what kind of shit could possibly take big money to keep quiet these days. I'll still take a swing with the regular sized bat, but don't really expect this to be a clean payout.

In other news, if I did win it all, none of you would ever know.✊

What I don't understand is old people here buying lotto tickets. Most of the people I see buying them here are in their 80s at least. It is a waste for them is the way I see it.

Having million's of $ in his 80's seemed to work out OK for him?
I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Lotto is truly a tax on the poor, just stop by a liquor store/donut shop in the ghetto that sells them.

Knuckle heads buying tickets all day long.

Over 2 Billion tickets get sold for a ONE Billion dollar payout. that's a lot of tax.
Is there a tax on the 2 billion tickets sold? Or only the one billion payout?

Fyi you only get the 1 billion if you take it over 26 annual payments.

If you take the cash you’re getting 550ish million and after taxes closer to 400 million free and clear. Assuming you live in CA where they don’t tax lotto on state income.

I heard it was called “a tax on the stupid”……. Which makes me a complete idiot. Lol

To answer @beerrun question. If you win……. Don’t fill out the back until you have spoken with an attorney that specializes in exactly this type of prize claim.

My wife and I actually know 2 lottery winners. One of them won 1 million, and took home approx 700k. This was 10 years ago. They bought a waterfront home, and nice boat. We met them at Lake Boca, and now hang out with them a lot. They won when the wife bought a scratch off……. Not the powerball.

I’d be at the lotto office that morning lol. Imagine losing the winning ticket due to 1 of a million different circumstances.

I will call the CPA on my way to the lotto office lol

I'm cashing out and walking with my 360 million. I figure I could make back the other 700 million the state stole as "penalty for actually expecting the total amount...like you actually won" and then the vig the Fed Mafia takes in half the time waiting for my yearly payment to show.....

Part of me wonders where all these BILLIONS of dollars are actually invested or held, I'm betting it's all going in some slush fund's pockets....

The Average "JOE" has done a Hell of a lot dumber things in their life than buying a Lottery Ticket.

My only complaint with the "Lotteries", although, if you don't like the Rules, Don't Play, is I have already paid my Taxes on the $'s I am buying the Ticket/Tickets with and Should have the Opportunity to Claim the Winnings on my Income and deal with the "IRS" down the Road:) Dirty Fucks, come in and "Skim" 50% off the Top and we have ZERO ideas where it goes and how it is spent:rolleyes:

I remember my grandmother in her 80s walking about two miles round trip to buy a one dollar super loto ticket every week. She always said she paid $1 for the right to dream about what WE (The Family) would do with the money.
I buy ONE ticket every now and then when it gets over 100 million as a reminder of her and for the right to dream.

There is a liquor store by LAX that has a deli I sometimes get sandwiches from. Dude in a wheelchair sits outside panhandling. He puts a sock on a parking bollard and rests his hand up there. One day, I see a guy give him a couple bucks as I’m walking in. Dude rolls in straight for the lotto kiosk, fills out his numbers and gets his ticket. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I bought some tickets last night. As usual, had an 80-year-old fucker in a powered wheelchair buying tickets. The guy is going to be dead soon and is handicapped. WTF are they going to do with the money?
