One of my few regrets is not serving after high school. My sons two buddies from high school just got back from their first tour of afghanistan at 19 and they will be our guests for Desert Storm. It's the least I can do for them.

I feel the same way. My best friend joined back in 98 and tried convincing me as they had the buddy program and would supposedly keep you together. The week before his four years was up they sent him to the shit for a year and half. Thankfully he returned and is doing good.

I didn't join and regret it all the time. I have the utmost respect for our armed forces and what they do.

22 Years in the USMC. Plenty of good memories. The unrecognized heroes are the wives, children and family members who always worry about you when you are in some strange land. It's a little different now with IPADS, Skype etc... still dangerous but better connectivity than 2 month old snail mail. Thanks and Semper Fi.

My dad was a Ranger in Vietnam and he told me stories about sending letters home for free written on the cardboard of C-Rat cases. So needless to say, I had to send him letters from Somalia written on MRE boxes. Shrimp with Fries............:D

My Dad was in the Navy and it put him in a wheelchair so needless to say I did not have a great outlook on joining. I look back now though and wished i had, just not the Marines (Go Navy!):D.

Utmost respect for those that did, especially in the last 10 years because of the shit you knew you were getting into.:thumbsup

My feelings on the military have been documented here ad nausem..
But I will never pass up a chance to say thank you to every single one of you who have worn the uniform of our country and served.
You are the best of the best, and you always will be.

I was kind of sad when I retired. It's a lifestyle you can never replace. Exhilaration and fear have a way of bringing people together. You do not really get that experience in very many jobs. Retirement also meant you were getting older; that part kind of sucks!

I spent my service time as an MP in the Army. Great experience for sure and I thank any person wearing a US military uniform regardless of branch. If not for those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us we would be living under a flag other than Old Glory.

USMC Reserve - 1985-1989. Semper Fi Devil Dogs. I got out right as Desert Shield was starting and my reserve unit was sent over for Desert Storm.
My brother retired E8, I think the highlight of his career was 3 years with the Blue Angels.
