There is a saying in the Track and Field throwing community "Heads up or Heads off" never turn your back on the pit.

As a throwing coach and both my kids being throwers this just sucks. RIP to the spectator.

That is really sad. I guess that why they only let high schoolers throw the Hammer in a couple of states. I threw the hammer in college and it could get dangerous, never saw anyone get hit with one. I've seen people get hit with a shot put, and coach took a girls discus in the head but never a hammer or Javelin.
