A few weeks ago I picked about 180 lbs of Cab Sav grapes in Fallbrook

Just racked into these carboys for oaking and aging..

Its alot of work... more than I thought. I have 13 gallons.

The wine expert kits are easier than real grapes.. now its time to wait and determine which is better.

Yeah September through November is CRAZY time at all the wineries. The grape sorting, crushing, and all the vinting is a LOT of work. It was always awesome to go to some of the better wineries during crush season and see all the work and different machines each winery used

I have a few friends who are the wine makers at some of the better Temecula winerys.

I think one plastic bin is 1 Ton, maybe 1000lbs, cant remember the exact #..

Regardless, this machine destems and crushs one bin every 10mins...

So When I visit them.. I go in the back alleys, and doors. So I see all the work that goes into it. I get to do alot of barrel tasting. Which I highly recommend.

When you barrel taste the exact same crush, thats in different barrels. new french oak at $1600/ barrel, 2 year old Hungarian oak, vs new american oak... I can go on for hours.., but its the same crush, and the difference of the taste blows my mind...
