In some recent posts that have clearly upset a few, I posted a few facts for RDPer's to read about USCG regulations as it pertains to boat MFG. Not claiming to be the resident expert here, more so when I see the need to clarify a few facts. Just like others do on RDP.

IF a boat MFG has not sold a boat, they have the legal ability to change it from say a 2010 to a 2011 model. Remember this is as I understand it for builder ONLY and for unsold NEW boats. Think of as being very different than cars, as cars have many government and safety changes to adhere to each year. For boats, not much changes each year if at all.

I know for a fact that several years ago a nationwide boat builder was left with a large leftover inventory of boats form the previous year. They came along and changed the year to the current year model.

Some builders build hulls and do not number them until they are sold new. In most states this is legal too. In CA this is legal. At that point they install the HIN on the back of the boat and a secondary number internally.

Not suggesting this was done with this Magic, just some FYI.

I would guess that the only reason they had hins in the first place is that they were built on credit and that way the bank could secure the loans. If not they would have never been stamped and they would be selling 2014 Magics today.

Tony at Magic told me specifically the boat was on consignment, not an unsold 2010 Model.

is it possible that you looked at a different boat with the same Gel scheme? I have seen alot of them that are almost identical. seems like they use 2 or 3 Gel Schemes a year and just change the color unless it was a special order deal, at least thats been my observation. I was looking at a couple 08's a while back and it seemed like they were all one way and the next year was something different

Probably just a clerical mix up on one of the adds. Seems like if they were trying to be sketchy they would take hours off from the original add instead of adding more hours. Good looking boat either way

You might want to look at the trailer VIN, that does not change.

Thats a big boat, I wonder how well it runs with a single TCM 800?:hmm

I would guess 108+. My buddy has a 540ci na makes 650hp and he has done 94mph. But these Septors have the double step bottoms. Much faster then the single step bottom.

I have heard some things about Tony that would make me not want to trust him.

few months ago from Magic, letting me know they were still there basically.
I wouldnt buy from them at this time, there are too many other options in town.
If they do get 'turned around' if thats even posible right now, I would buy another. Our deck boat has been perfect, zero issues for 7 years. Flat Top is doing all the service work, they were basically magic, when it was booming.

The H deck boat was just a few years too late, market changed, the company had issues etc. But it is a very impressive boat that took a long time to get right. We asked for boat number #1 or #2 when it was ready for release, after waiting for over a year I lost interest. Probably a good thing, the company closed.

Id buy a used low hour Magic with out any hesitation.

Good info BoatPI,

Weekend Warrior did the same thing, I'd venture 50% of all their stuff sold after 05' is a year to two years older than what their registration cards say. Crappy loophole in the RV industry.

I agree with Dave. I have a 8-71 (4lbs of boost) on top of a 540ci (single step bottom) and have seen 105 gps and still had a little more left. And as was mentioned, the double step is faster!

Tony was asking 80K when I looked at the boat back in Jan....

Havasu is a very small town, and the boat industry even smaller. No one had anything good to say about Tony @ Magic when I spent a weekend there looking at used boats.
