There is a ton of shit going on behind the scenes out there and it’s getting ugly.

Ron brought that shootout back from the dead and turned it into what it is today. The shootout hired a person and they swayed a couple votes this way or that and he got retired right before the last shootout.. then they just announced they were going to move it to this new location.

Word on the street is Ron filed for the permits.. then they filed later.. If Ron gets them (which I am betting he will) then that shoot out board etc is going to be the board of exactly nothing in about two seconds.

The new regime has been absolutely reckless since they got Ron out. They terminated long standing relationships, purchased basically defunct offshore races, made press releases just assuming that things are gonna go their way..

That same regime just recently said they are going to put on an offshore race in Havasu in approximately two months.. zero marketing, and no permits for that either although they have been filed for now.

How they are going to pull that off and be successful is beyond me.

Damn! I was thinking the new location and having dog days involved was actually pretty cool. Guess we’ll see.

Highly unlikely. For a new Marine Event, the Coast Guard requires a minimum of 135 days (4.5 months) to review, scope, and issue the permit. They have to scope a shitload of Federal, Tribal, State, County, Local Agencies, and a number of other interested parties, (Chambers of Commerce, Emergency Services, lakeside businesses, etc).

The one year they did do offshore races in havasu was fuckin EPIC! Desert storm poker run, street party, shootout out and POPRA offshore races. BIG dogs rolled into town. Multiple turbine mystics, bunch of offshore racing boats and poker runners from across the country. Probably the best desert storm I’ve ever been to. Insane.

That’s sounds awesome.
When was that. Year wise.

An employee of the company I am contracted to, his wife works for Ron. This whole debacle is far from over according to her and she has been right about several aspects so far.

I imagine there has been a lot of shady double dealing. Hopefully things get worked out for the better.

Can someone please explain to me how you have an OFF SHORE Anything, on a LAKE???

I always thought off shore, meant big blue! Silly me. 😜
Try the bay above the channel when the wind is blowing. Its all the ocean conditions you could ask for. Now scheduling that event to coincide with the weather is a bit of a long shot.

There working with desert storm on a points deal to have a championship between havasu and loto

They aren't going to be working with anyone if they don't get the permit, because they will have nothing to do with the LOTO shootout if Ron gets it back, which I'm thinking he will.

I'll add a little drama to the mix.. If Ron does get it back, I'm gonna call him about working on a shootout with SuperCat Fest West out here. :D:D I already got sponsorship lined up etc. ;).

LOTO Shootout under new leadership is in some serious shit. No permits have been submitted for the new location.
That is a huge issue.

You must not have boated in the ocean before. 🤣
Well to you and @rivermobster I haven't been in the ocean in anything bigger than like 40 feet, and usually in the best of conditions. So its been choppy and some swell but clearly pretty tame.

I'm well aware of the Deadliest Catch conditions and Aircraft Carriers taking waves over the bow in the North Atlantic. But those peeps are paid to be there. No one is doing any boating for fun in those conditions. I highly doubt Skaters, Mystics or even DCBs would decide to go out in that.

I've never seen an offshore boat race where the intent is to race in extreme conditions. They race in big water, but those few times that bay above the channel seemed pretty similar.

A winding body of water that flows in one direction is a River. Hence ROTO. That aint no lake.

The roughest Havasu water ever gets would be small stuff for ocean racers. Yes, it can get choppy and mixed but nothing like the ocean.

I ran in the ocean for many years in some pretty wild stuff. When you are in a trough and all you can see is water because the waves are ten feet high you know it's big. I was in the SCOPE club for years and we ran in some rough stuff at times. This wasn't bad but everyone had their boats trimmed up to show off for the helicopter.

When I moved to Vegas I remember people telling me when the wind kicks up Mead would have ten footers. I laughed and said if you have a boat with 1 foot of freeboard then a 3 footer seems like ten feet. I've been out on that lake when the wind was blowing as hard as ever and it was 3's with maybe an occasional 5. Yes, it was mixed Maytag water but nothing any decent deep V offshore boat couldn't handle with ease.

I know that if you don't follow off shore racing or haven't ran at speed in the ocean you would not be familiar with the potential conditions. All I am saying that if the racers show up and the wind is blowing it is not going to keep them from running. In fact, some of them would prefer rougher water over glass as it gets the boats out of the water and they can run faster.

Any time we've gone to the races not offshore I typically clarify that we're going to watch the "offshore boats" race. Seems to help with the questions.

I'll be going in August for the Shoot Out again this year. I hope it goes smoothly and the event is held but even if it isn't, I think a lot of people will show up for that week. I know that even if it is not able to be held I will be there just to boat on the lake and enjoy the boating, restaurants and sights.

21 and under river boat. Anything bigger offshore boat. 21s used to be big.... The 24 day cruiser was built for Catalina runs. Now people won't take closed bow 27's in the ocean because they aren''t big enough. The 270t was designed as an offshore race boat.

Also an off shore boat...

Steve Ticknor, President of Desert Storm 2.0, and Leah Martin, Executive Director of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, have announced that a Shootout National Championship is being created by the two largest events in performance boating. Changes are being made to enable teams competing in the Anderson Powersports Desert Storm Shugrues’ Shootout (Saturday, April 26 on Lake Havasu, AZ) to collect points to combine with those to be earned at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO (August 23-24) thus making the inaugural National Shootout Championship Series for Performance Boating.

To facilitate this, Desert Storm will adopt the competitor classifications currently in use by LOTO to provide compatibility. Along with it, common safety protocols and operational standards will be adopted and implemented by these two major events. This will develop standardization while being proactive in the running and insuring of these high speed, crowd pleasing events. It will give added recognition to the teams that campaign these awesome boats in addition to the local and regional awards they now earn. Other Shootout events may want to join with Desert Storm and LOTO in the future.

For 2025, the Anderson Powersports Desert Storm Shootout will launch the Jones Family Cup Awards with a cash purse of $20,000 for contestants. This is generously hosted by long time shootout competitor Tim Jones and his family. More details coming soon!

Anderson Powersports Desert Storm Poker Run & Shootout is April 23rd-26th in Lake Havasu City, AZ presented by: KICKER Marine Audio.

I don’t believe Steve is aware of all the goings ons in LOTO right now. It’s 50/50 that Leah will even be putting on the shootout out there right now.

The way I would read into that announcement is that the LOTO event will umbrella under the DS permits.

The LOTO race thing at DS maybe will fall under DS permits.

LOTO shootout in Aug does not have permits. Not even an application has been submitted for new date and location.

It’s been submitted but not granted.. as said earlier the problem is they ousted Ron, and he filed for the permits before them.

Now it’s up to the water patrol on who gets it. If Ron gets it then the entire shootout committee / board etc is DOA and Ron gets the shootout back.

If Ron gets it back then all this stuff with desert storm etc is also DOA.

If the permits are in Ron’s name then maybe. But the LOTO BoD has the name, equipment, insurance, money and the volunteers, etc..

The entire LOTO BoD is not going to be replaced. If anything Ron is invited back on the board and a new set of elections take place and a new BoD is in place for 2026.

2025 they will need to play nice or the event is at risk of being canceled in 2025 and that does not work out well for anyone involved.
