Loreto Baja Mexico

Planning a trip down to Loreto this summer with the wife and kids. Anybody stayed at the Villa del Palmar resort before. Been to Cabo and other spots in Baja but never to Loreto before. Thanks for any suggestions. Kids are middle school and high school so we are able to do more finally!

It is a pretty small town. There's a fancy resort south of the main town. I know the Canadians have been coming for years and it is getting bigger.

Up in the hills, there is a quaint old church, maybe the oldest in Baja. I was there for the 300th anniversary of the founding. I agreed to come back for the 400th anniversary. LOL

Watch out for the stingrays in the water. The sand isn't great like Cabo, more like dirt. The Malecon (beach boardwalk) is a pretty short walk.

We drove up to Mulege and Santa Rosalia one day. It was a pretty drive.

I think we stayed at Hotel Oasis. They used to have a reindeer in a pen near the pool. LOL

Loreto is a great town but very different than Los Cabos. Its way smaller and quaint. Not really any night life like Los Cabos.

It's been 10+ years since i've been there. Used to go there for fishing quite a bit. Cool little town, was getting real built up. The last few years, Canadians were buying up condo's there like crazy.

Condos in Loreto??? Then again haven't been there in 35 years? What a fishing town or was!!!!!!! My wife and I have caught more Dorado there than I can remember and the yellow tail, holy chit!!!

It is a great little town. Spend time at the small marina watching the many Brown Pelicans dive for fish and see the boats come in with their catch of the day. A special treat is to take a boat out to the islands to see all of the sea life and the Ospray nests. Lots of sea life as the entire area is a Marine sanctuary. If you are there for a Saturday or Sunday you will see the locals cruise the waterfront with their music playing. The Plaza is the place to be on Sunday.

Last we heard, they were building 5,000 condo's there. Building like crazy!

Yes, i've got more Dorado there than anyplace. Doing Los Barriles in two weeks. I like the cruisers they have there, over the Panga's in Loreto.

Loreto is a great place. I was there a couple weeks ago racing the norra 1000. We booked at the villa del palmar but never stayed there after we found out it was 45 min South of loreto in islands of loreto and were too tired to drive the race car there. Looked nice when we drove by though coming back up.

Ya that place is out of town, best bet is find a private renter and rent their place in town if you are staying a bit.
