I have some work needed to be done coming up on our boat. Looks like the gimbal ring assembly has a bit of play in it affecting the steering. I’d like to put together the game plan for the work to be completed this coming winter. I’d like to see if anyone with a Hallett 210 has hydraulic steering. Could you post up images of the steering setup and transom?

I added when we rebuilt the boat. If you may want to look at an ITS system if the transom assembly needs to be rebuilt. If the Exhaust exits are in the stock locations then the shorter Rams will be needed and you may loose some travel on the steering. The ITS system has it all contained in the transom plate.

Agree on ITS for a 210. One issue though might be room for the helm.

I was informed that there was concerned with exhaust placement that there was not enough room. That is why I am asking on the photos so that I can compare To ours. How much improvement is the hydraulic? Is it worth the effort?

With ITS transom assembly you won't have any issues. Yes 100 percent worth the effort. I rode in your boat a handful of times when Wayne first got it. The BP509 ran solid.

Agree on ITS for a 210. One issue though might be room for the helm.
I have not done the helm still cables to the wheel. It can be done but will need to machine a column to fit with the Hydraulic Helm and the dash recess.

Cool to see that there are a least two options. The question is….does one option perform better than the other? OR Do they perform the same and it is just the prep on the boat?

Yes my option was more expensive but it’s hands down the cleanest and tightest packaged setup. I’m sure the external setup will work just as good though!

They're all nice but damn, @Oliver1421 Hallett turned out BITCHEN!!
Technically not a 210 picture like the OP was requesting, however, it sure is a nice Vector!

Still a good example of hydraulic steering installs... So here's a picture of the hydraulic steering on mine. (not a Hallett at all). This is Imco's transom adapter.

Thanks to all that have posted photos. This is great news as there are a few options. Does anyone know of shop in Havasu that they would trust doing the work?

Exactly this, either run short rams and lose the travel, or custom length rams and wing plate and get full travel but it will cost a pretty penny and there are only a few shops capable of properly doing this kind of work.

Edit: or go to the ITS style transom with integrated rams

As Ron is now working for Hallett/Nordic talk to him. But he is an absolute wealth of knowledge on the steering. He can help you understand single ram vs dual ram etc. he walked me through it all when i added full power steering to my Orion. As well explained that i don’t need to spend the extra money or time doing dual ram as single is plenty strong but maybe not as easy on the eyes. He will also be able to tell you exactly what kit to order etc.

The Imco ITS system is awesome. Self contained unit, and a cool set up. If you are going to drop the coin, drop it for a nice clean set up. No extra holes in the transom.

My old 210 with merc ITS and changed to imco.
Merc ITS on a 210 is shit.
Imco set up works perfect.
With stock location you will need to have short tails. ( if your is stock likely already short )

Not a Hallett but , a few years ago did the full hydraulic steering with the Imco transom assembly and love it . Definitely a bit expensive but looks way clean and works great too . Your welcome to come over and check it out anytime Tim .
