Hey guys, I've always been a fan of small boats, from Allisons, Hydrostreams, Sutphen's to the Avengers, Checkmates, Sidewinders and old Eliminators. Let's see your favorite hull under 18.' Mine might be the 15 Avenger or the Tuff 16, which is amazing. I wrote an article about why small boats are great to learn to drive with. No matter how old I get, small boats are the most fun.

My Dad had a Glastron GT 150 like this one.
(The "live and let die" boats)

I flipped that thing at high speed! No damage.
Thing was just crazy fun...and not real safe with the 90 he had hanging on the back!

My Hydrostream Valero YT(17'9") is a blast to drive with 200HP Merc up to about 80 after that it gets a little hairy. I have gone 90 in it though.

Have a friend on Long Island that had a Hydrostream Viper(15') that went well over 100. He and that boat were one.

My parents owned two different hulls from Fantasy from the mid-60's until 1978. They towed it with a similar 1965 Dodge van. Fantasy2.jpg Fantasy int.jpg Fantasy front.jpg Fantasy bottom.jpg 65 Dodge.jpg

My dad's boat, an 84 Concord 18' with a 200hp Blackmax. My brother owns it now, still runs like a top. Not a real fast boat, but fun to ski behind.

I believe these were based on a Checkmate hull.

16-18 is normal size. 18-21 is mini cruiser and everything larger is big to me.

A 57 chevy is under 17 feet by 6 inches and I don?t consider those small either.

Good thread!:thumbsup

Ya, the 16 is the coolest of the Classics, because it's the original. That pic is an 18 though!

I'm a little partial to the 18' (they actually measure in at 18'6") Laveycraft Interceptor. Will run 70 with a 200 Merc but run through chop like a much larger boat. Lots of interior room as well too.

My brother and I picked up this 18" Baker Tunnel. With a 200 on it, we're right around 70 but she turns like a slot car on rails and it's basically a surfboard with a 200 horse 2 stroke on the back. This thing is pure fun!!!:eek:uttahere:

Before my Valero I had a Checkmate Enchanter(20') with the same 2.5L 200 I now have on my Valero. The 200 pushed the Encanter to 71 MPH. The Enchanter was heavy but handled the chop a lot better than the Valero. I do miss that boat.
