I have been thinking about buying Lithium batteries for the Golf Cart once the current set dies. Has anyone made the conversion over from acid batteries to Lithium batteries?

These are some of the first results from my search:

https://alliedlithium.com/pages/lithium-golf-cart-batteries-brands

"Drop in Ready" Lithium Golf Cart Batteries
Allied Lithium Batteries are the only true “Drop-in-Ready” Lithium batteries for golf carts. Our turn-key replacement system enables you to convert your cart from lead acid to lithium in less than 30 minutes. You can use the same wiring as used with your current lead acid system (however we do recommend our Allied lithium charger.)

This is the only Lithium Solution with golf cart batteries made to the exact dimensions as the lead acid batteries so the installation and the connection points are in the same place.

Common sets include 3 or 4 x 12V Lithium Batteries made to fit a 36V or 48V cart. Works with 6 x 8V and 4 x 12V configurations.

https://www.lithiumion-batteries.com/EVGOLFCART

Our Golf Cart and EV lithium batteries have a built in Battery Management System that does not require any external hardware. You simply take out the old batteries, connect your lithium batteries in and you are ready to go. Our batteries are commonly used in all brands of Golf Carts from EZGO and CLUB CAR to BAD BOY BUGGY's and GEM CARS.

I would be a little concerned in a desert climate about longevity of the batteries.
Technology has come a long way though.

They did my set up (standard batteries) on my cart over 15 years ago, and it has been great. Service after the sale has been great as well, I would recommend anyone to talk with them.

They do all of the drive systems for the e-ride electric trucks that I sell & we have done a ton of golf cart conversions also.

There are several people that are doing there own at a fraction of the cost. They use Nissan leaf batteries with a BMS and have had amazing results. Lots of info on Buggies gone wild.

Once my current set goes I will be doing the conversion as well. Hopefully the prices keep coming down

Hmmmm, I might need to dig into this more too. I have a 48V cart with bad batts and access to auto lithium ion packs. Didn’t know people were doing these conversions, I guess it’s time to study up!

Hello, My name is Vincent and I am reaching out to inform you that we have a $100 discount code available for a purchase on a set of 60amp or higher batteries. Please use the code AB100 during the checkout process. Thank you!

It doesn't look like they carry the 40 AMP batteries though.

I have seen them on BGW too. Some of those guys are pretty uptight over there that's why I figured I would ask here first.o_O

We have 2 carts with Lithium conversions...Night and day difference.

We have a vacation home so when we are not there the battery doesn't drain like a standard one. The range is longer and it charges faster. You can leave it on charger for weeks at a time. No more messing with water either. Mine stays in AC garage so I can't speak to the longevity of them in 110+++.

I have a 90volt custom built Lithium system. The above pic is a screen shot from my Battery Management System, which is seen by an app on my phone. I run 22 Samsung SDI cells. My Delta Q charger had to be reprogrammed in order to properly charge custom lithium system. Possibly the controller too.

I do know for sure that you just can’t install lithium batteries without changing the charging algorithm. Just a heads up.

Not all Lithium batteries are the same. At this point I would only do LifePo4 (lithium iron phosphate). I would not mess around with old car batteries that are Lithium Nickle Cad or Laminate Lithium ion etc.. there are cheap enough LifePo4 batteries out there.

If you don't care about the size and shape of the replacement, then its easy... The tricky part is if you want to try to reuse all the mounting hardware and location so you are bound to a battery form factor like group27, still not a deal breaker but it may limit your options.

The charge profile it slightly different from lead/agm to lifepo4 but not that different. The difference is that you don't float charge lifepo4 and lead chargers sometimes go higher than the lifepo4 batteries like and require. But I am assuming most people are not moving around 36v or 48v chargers from cars to carts to other things. So if you are trying to reuse your lead/agm 36v golf cart charger with LifePo4 you will need to at least educate yourself on the charging profile before you reuse it. It may work it may not, just depends. If not they you need a new charger specifically from LifePo4.

Otherwise it should be plug and play..... Optionally you can add a shunt or battery monitor to have a battery gas gage to display the state of charge in a percentage etc..

if it was me and I had a 36v golf cart I would tear out the lead acid batteries with the group 27 form and wedge in one of these https://bigbattery.com/products/36v-gatr-max-kit-lifepo4-120ah-5kwh/

Almost 2x the size at half the price of the OPs solution that comes with a charger.

.. and if I was really feeling rowdy, I would charge it with an mppt solar controller with a few used 250 watt panels on my side yard....

It's a 48v system with a Delta Q charger; it's basically a copy of a Star LSV.

That’s a pretty high end charger from what I can tell quickly reading the manual on line if I found the right model. You would have to validate but it looks like you can software program the charge profile. You would create a profile based on the lifepo4 battery manufacturer spec, but it looks like that charger would have no problem with it based on its Dc output spec.

Three carts, two are on 4x 12v Trojan Trilliums. Overall good but their BMS is junk, we haven’t found a charger the batteries love yet.

Did this one in 2016, still running strong 🤙

Is there anyone in Parker or Havasu that does the conversion I really don’t want to drag it to HB and back and I don’t want to do it myself?

Do Delta-Q chargers work with Lithium ion batteries?

XAVIER DUQUE

At this time, Delta-Q does not support lithium battery applications for individual end-users or conversions. Delta-Q has experience with lithium-ion battery charging and can work with original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to provide lithium-ion charging solutions in new development projects.

If you would like to purchase a new charger for your lithium application, please contact Howland Technology to discuss your requirements:

I’ve never heard of Fullriver Battery USA.

My charger was reprogrammed by the guy who built my battery and BMS system.

As a side note…… I was told that the lithium batteries that look like regular batteries won’t work properly in a cart because of the charging sequence. My builder thinks that is the absolutely wrong way to go. Other than that, I don’t know specifically why. I am just glad I did not go that route. I am currently getting around 50 miles to a singlecharge, possibly 60.

My cart is also the fastest golf cart I have ever driven. You could easily kill yourself on it! It’s ridiculous!

Why not contact Delta-Q directly?

Also, there is not a one size fits all profile for "Lithium". You really should know the manufacture of the battery and use their recommended charge profile. Even with the manufacture recommendation, you can choose different charging profiles for Lithium based on you goal. One profile might maximize capacity and literally try to get you 99% of energy out of the battery for each charge. Another profile might only use about 80% in exchange for extended life of the battery.

I don't even use a "battery charger" on my 12v LifePo4 batteries I just use and AC to DC power supply direct set at 13.8V and let it do its thing over night and remove it in the morning.

For the record IMO. The guys that argue over every finite detail on lifePo4 charging profiles are trying to get every last electron out of the battery and have them last 25 years... In a golf cart you are going to be abusing the battery in much more detrimental ways with heat, cold and vibrations etc... I abuse my batteries and just bulk charge them around the 80-90% use cycle and they work fantastic. I fully intent the batteries to calendar age out even under those abusive conditions. In 10 years if they are only able to deliver 80% of their original amp hours I will continue to use them. Just like a truck or boat motor that is 20 years old and only has 80% of its original horse power but runs and drives perfectly fine for what I need it to do.

Getting ready to pull the trigger for a lithium swap in my 48v Yamaha cart. Does anyone have any experience with Enjoybot batteries?

No experience with enjoybot. Just watch the current limits, that’s a big deal with lithium. If your cart hits the limit the bms will shut the battery down.

I just did a roypow power series single unit for mine. So far everything is good.
