Me and the wife went to see the documentary on Linda Ronstadt this weekend. It was pretty good, though it did remind me of an episode of Behind The Music. She was always a favorite of mine including the big band stuff, her Trio albums with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, up until she did the Pirates of Penzants thing, but she totally lost me on the Aaron Neville and Mexican Folk music phases.

It was really sad how Parkinson's disease has taken away her ability to sing. A good movie to see if you don't want to see any movies with a leftist agenda (though during her time dating Jerry Brown she carried his leftist views).

I love some of her early videos of live performance with Eagles as her backup band. Funny that so much of here music was covers of other artists but she did it so well that she owned them.

She was great and made some great music in the 60s and 70s and 80s. I don’t know know the Aaron Neville stuff, but I was a huge fan of him, used to see “The Neville Brothers” at a little club in New Orleans all the time, great music.

I got to see her at the Universal Amphitheater, before it was enclosed, early 80's. I was amazed at how that tiny girl could have that huge voice, she probably didn't need amplifiers.

I am disappointed that nothing was said about the 4 hit songs she had that were written by Warren Zevon - Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me, Carmelita, Mohammad’s Radio, and Hasten Down The Wind.

A friend of mine worked at a recording studio back in the day.

He said she was the Only singer Ever that they laid down her voice on track, with no alterations at all.

Amazing singer. Wish I could have seen her live .

I’ve always liked her music. Long, Long Time was a favorite and What’s New still is a favorite album of hers.

She was an amazing performer.
The Mexican Ballads weren't all great but this one always struck me.

After watching this I deleted my prior post.

I have a buddy who was a young drummer with the Righteous Brothers. They appeared with Linda many times. He tells me she was great to work with, just good people, unbelievably talented and extremely hot.

He has told me she brought her voice to every performance, as an instrument, to perform with all the other musicians. That was, and still is, known as a True Player. Perhaps the ultimate compliment from her peers.

... Now I’m looking for the video of where my friend is playing rhythm guitar in her back up band...well I can’t remember what the song was...so little difficult to find the video ...but anyway one night way back when ...a bunch of us piled into two Volkswagens and drove to a club on Melrose...the Ash Grove...
... Thought we were just going to listen to music ...well as we sat in the audience Linda moved about a couple rows away from us and Rob Grill of the Grass Roots had just finished his set ...he says we have a very special treat for you tonight as miss Linda Ronstadt is going to sing...This was after the Stone Ponies but before she had released anything solo...
...So up on the stage heads Linda... no shoes ...she definitely had the hippie look down but in truth was in no way a hippie...
...I think she only sang two or three songs but she knocked the place dead...
...Most of the people in the audience we’re not familiar with her at that point..
...From roughly then on history was made...thumb up...

She graduated a couple years before me from Catalina High school in Tucson. Her family owned
Ronstadt Hardware down town. Sold tractors and shit. She was a party girl in the Stone Ponies days...

I saw her perform at UNM around 1972 with Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The other band members on that tour came and went, I think Randy Meisner also played the night I saw them play.

And that is important to know, why? How the hell do you know what their private activities may or may not have been? Answer..... You Don’t.

Russ Kunkel was her producer and a hell of a drummer. They sounded good together at the Forum.

Glen Fry inducting her to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of fame was something special. The female artists that sang as a tribute were fantastic.
That was my all time favorite HOF performance. Carrie Underwood killed it! Tom Morello’s induction of KISS was absolutely the most bad ass induction of all time too. 2014 HOF killed it.

Linda’s always been a liberal, it came out more when she was dating Brown. Then about 15 years ago she make a disparaging comment about Bush II and got kicked out of some Vegas hotel for life. Now she makes the Trump is Hitler comment - that goes to show you how stupid she really is by jumping on the anti-Trump bandwagon and not even thinking about what she said. I love her music, just not her politics.
Entertainers would have so much more credibility and not alienate half of their fans if they’d keep their mouths shut when it comes to politics because most of them don’t know dick about anything political other than it’s popular to bash the president if you’re a celebrity.

I really don’t give a fuck what these musicians think or say politically right or left. Sooner or later everyone says something you or I don’t agree with. No big deal, If they make great music then I’m a fan.

Well, she did graduate Cum Laude from the Jane Fonda School of Public Relations.

We can learn a lot from Hanoi Jane

One problem is when celebrities, athlete's and some politician's spend years being told they are great, they begin to believe their greatness extends beyond the one or two things they do well.
The bigger problem is when we as a society buy in to the perceived greatness.
In reality they are no different than a county fair circus clown.
Perform, entertain and move along quietly.
