tearing the ceiling out of the kitchen in this 115 year old house we have and going to put led cans up there . Looks like there is a lot of variety. any experience positive or negative with the hundreds of brands? looks like it will be about 6. we have two utilitch 5 inchers in one hallway that seem okay but who knows.

We just put in ones like Hula did, the don't mount in "cans" and attack directly to the ceiling. Pretty slick, dimmable and nice bright lights.

I bought LED can units that use the same two side spring system at Costco for all of my rentals. Dirt cheap like 2 for $20 or less. Made by FEIT. Will work in any can fixture that uses the spring system.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Globe-E...rated-LED-Recessed-Kit-4-Pack-91126/3019998364 for 100$ at Home Depot. Can switch light color (temperature) from soft white to bright white. Super easy to install. Can even fit under a joist.

Soft white in bedroom and “daylight” in kitchen.

House is for sale if you don’t want to hassle with the installation process.;)

We install 4 inch recess lights in almost every custom home we wire. Not a lot of designers or architects are having the 6 inch installed anymore. As far as trim go, you can spend 8$ to a $100 a trim. Elite sells a decent trim for around $12-14 a unit. We install baffle trim almost 95% of the time. I just did my own new home with Juno which throw a very nice light and dim very well . The problem with the cheaper trim is they will flicker or not dim down all the way

Halo Led cans and trim preferred. The Costco Feit are 2 for $16 currently. Have not had the instant rebate where it drops them to 2 for $8 for a while. I have a few cases left from last sale.

Elite are cheap shit IMO, I’ve had issues with them. I prefer 4” you can get the same lumen output. I like Nora cobalts smooth cone 1k lumen and high cri and work with most dimmers.

We went 4” with the costco units about 4 years ago. No regrets of the decision made. Only thing is that we are installing a remote light system and we do not have any regular bulbs. I’d suggest you find a few that you can remain as a build that you could swap out as a controled light.

I out some cheap 3" dimmable LED downlights in my living room that I got at Lowe's and they are ok. Give really good light and work very well in an 8' ceiling in my opinion, but... As said before, they don't dim very well. I bought a semi flush mount light from Lowe's for my hallway and it's great! Outs out a shit ton of light! Not sure how it does on the dimmer but have been great otherwise.

I don't have existing cans, just a 101" ceiling (no idea where they came up with that) covering with rough cut 1 x 10 that use to have plaster on it.

Where you located? I have plenty of extra lights with trim you can have. After lighting the entire house, the wife wanted 5000s.

If can will not fit use these. $30 a pop at HD. They make the same 5 way trims for existing cans.

Yes, LED's require specific LED dimmers. Most all LED dimmers will work with incandescent and CFL's (assuming they are dimmable) but not the other way around
