Is there anything exciting to see in Lebec? I have a crew that was deployed there today and another crew going there next Monday. They don't sound too excited about the area.

Any little town on 5 or 99 between Sacramento and Los Angeles are CA version of fly over states. No one really ever goes there on purpose.

Spent a day there with a broken down AMG Mercedes many years ago.

Plenty of fast food chains to experience.

Used to be a country girl bbq restaurant but I think it’s gone. Up the road is a Mx track. Qual cyn I think, been a while. Pyramid lake.
Millions a day go thru Lebec, no one goes TO Lebec.

The crew was on standby in Pozo, it's a small place east of Santa Margarita Lake. I guess Lebec is big city compared to Pozo.

I’d go Pine Mountain Club from Lebec or into Bakersfield. Frazier park may have a good local bar restaurant but I’m not familiar with one there. If they’re there over the weekend there’s a nice Oval Racetrack off the 5 in Bakersfield.

Is this for cross-training ? or like some Sister City program ? Just seems odd that a unit from Utah would travel so far to this area for Stand-bye when there's no fires I can find listed.

There's one just east of Fresno that my buddy is working but that's a ways away from Lebec

Going back and forth over the Grapevine in the early 60's between college and home was alway an adventure and Lebec became an automatic potty , cold drink , or coffee stop. Now we speed by and remember when. There's a couple of big ranches tucked back in those hills.

Very common in California. Seems the forest Service and Cal Fire crews are too busy in other area so they ask for help from other agencies and states. this past month I know of at least 4 Utah crews in California, three of them from here in southern Utah. We have had a type 3 engine down there since early June and have been asked to stay until October. Every 14 - 21 days we rotate the crew. My guys would rather be fighting a fire (they do get some fire action but not much) but the pay is good for them. I also have a crew in Texas right now. If things get hotter here in Utah we might bring them back.

Pozo / Santa Margarita is east of the 101 below Paso Robles...they would be much happier there!!

Peter Lebeck was a Clamper with a Chapter named after him:

Peter Lebeck Chapter #1866

The Kern County Chapter of E Clampus Vitus ®

What say the Brethren? 😁

I've driven by many times when checking on our products in Costco and Whole Foods along the west coast. Drove from Seattle to San Diego at least twice per month for two years.

Years ago there was a great old bar in Pozo, the Pozo Saloon. It would be worth looking to see if it's still there. Santa Margarita has produced some amazing large mouth bass over the years.

The Amtrak line that goes through Lebec goes through the most depressing, shittiest part of the town - that’s my experience of Lebec.

Saw reports of some Hotel Group buying it. Don't know if they've reopened it? Back in the day, the 70s, it was a great place to drink cold beer and shoot some pool. The place has an amazing history.

There is no railway thru Lebec...even the great high speed rail will go around thru the high desert.
