Last time i took my boat out the engine seized up and as we were diagnosing the motor problem with the boat still in the water thereon was a leak coming from the exposed portion of the shaft. I did rebuild the jet in the winter and have had no problems what so ever, until now. I am thinking since i haven't gone back and tightened the bolts since it has been rebuilt that may be the problem. I know there are a lot more experienced people on here so i am hoping for some insight. I picked up a new motor and putting in next weekend i am just trying take care of all my problems at once if i have one. Thanks for input in advance.

I think you might want this in the Jet Section. :thumbsup

Personally I would never go in there but I hear some knowledgeable folks visit that section all the time.

When you rebuilt the jet, how many packing rings(the little sections of waxy graphite rope) did you install, and did you stagger the seams? You probably just need to tighten the packing gland nuts a little to slow the "leak" to a very slow drip.

If that doesn't slow the leak, post back up and we'll take it from there.

Try tightening the 1/2in nuts that face forward on the pump by the drive shaft. They are packing seals and might stop the leak if you installed them properly. Put the boat in the water and tighten them untill you get a drip every couple seconds.
