Not new to you... but new-new... first owner, your colors etc...

Near as I can tell, nobody I know has bought a boat in years. Wonder anyone is staying in business unless it is pure repairs etc...

Anyone on here bought a brand new boat in the last year?

We're negotiating a price on a new boat now.
If the dealer doesn't sharpen their pencil for another $25K off MSRP, we're out.

They took advantage of us several times when the economy was booming, our turn now to take advantage of them.

I'm thinking about buying a fishing boat...maybe a new G3 V172F. It's pretty cool...aluminum construction, elevated post seats, an almost vertical windshield, 8' beam, and a 90 HP Yamaha is the stock power. They cost about $21K. Awesome for crappie fishing.

We have our Sea Ray 290 and the Sea Doo Speedster for sale...don't ever use them. Wifey says trading two boats for one is good.

May 1978! Custom built by Jimmy Anderson (Ace) in Phoenix when he wuz "Jimmy's Misc" One of the few 23' Hallett cruisers. Big Block, V Drive.

I was hot stuff then with a "Big Boat", since then I haven't been able to keep up!

Several boats since then none of them brand new.

I don't know anyone who has bought a new boat in the past 10 years.

I bought mine 4 years used as well.....6 years ago.

I see your point, and live close in SoCal, close to where Ultra, Eliminator, Genesis, and a few others used to be. Also close to Caliber 1, Essex, Laser, Cobra, etc...... you know all the players.
For the life of me, I don't know how any of those guys are making it. I applaud the fact that they are still managing, but I sure don't see the procession of new boats being pushed out their doors any more.

It's sad. It's such a cool business!

I think the only way I would ever buy a new boat is if I had crazy money, like I won 93 million in the powerball money. Even then I think I would hesitate. There are always soo many extremely nice used boats for sale for pennies on the dollar, I just dont see the point.

i would purchase a new boat today only if the economy would justify being able to sell my current boat, and it doesnt so i am stuck with my crappy brand boat right now..:D

I bought a new Stoker in 05, ran it a few seasons, got bored with it and sold it. I can't really say that I am interested in any boat right now but if the fever strikes I'd buy another one.

I bought a new 32' Boston Whaler with twin 275 Merc's on it in 2006 and before that I bought a new 34' Sea Ray Sundancer in about 2002 or 2003 but we are now out of the new boat business for quite some time. Our business would have to get really crazy busy to even consider a new boat at this point in time. It is going to take a very, very, long time for us to recover from this economic downturn...

Well, I guess inflatables are OK, but kinda small for most outings. How fast does it go with that 10 HP on the back?

I know there were some boats built in 2010,but volume wise of all mfg.s was small. So small it was less than the volume of a single mfg before things took a crap.

I'm surprised a lot of the manufacturers havent joined forces to try and keep the lights on. I don't see the new boat market returning before the housing market returns. From what I'm hearing housing wont be back on track until somewhere around the 2015-2017 timeframe.

I doubt most of them are liquid enough to last another 4-6 years without something dramatically changing, or calling it quits. Its unfortunate for sure.

ney for a boat takes the fun out of boating for me. Especially now with such a depressed market I can't imagine paying full price. Sad for the manufactures I guess.

Boating is definitely extra money that a lot of folks don't have these days. The Howard and DCB thing is great to see though. I see Dave every once in awhile and he's always busy. I hear the same about Howard.

Kinda like the car market I guess, lot's of people keeping their older boats instead of mortaging the house to get a new boat.

I'm sure the river holidays this year will once again make me wonder if the economy is really that bad as the thousands of people show up. I guess they are all in older boats now!

Hopefully not that long, but definitely awhile!

Manufacturers have so many negative forces against them today, not just the economy. The new EPA regulations are making it difficult to sell an affordable boat. Mercruiser prices are going through the roof in a down economy???? A 502 HO package cost more than an average car?? Makes it hard to be "affordable" when your starting point is a car, now you have to build a boat, buy a trailer and attempt to make a profit!

I was talking to Brian at Tank It, he was telling me about the up-coming EPA tank regulations and the future cost to build tanks. He estimated tanks will be more than two times as expensive as they are today, once the full EPA compliance is in effect.

In this market manufactures have to be pretty creative to keep the doors open. My partner and I are keeping our "Day Jobs" so if you need tribal graphics on your forklift, let me know!:D

Not to mention other gov. entities like osha, aqmd, etc running around inspecting shops that were 4 years ago fine, and with no changes made to the shop since, now thousands deep in violations, and or thousands deep to make the building up to the new "par". They're just doing their jobs of chasing all mfg. of anykind out of Ca.

Not to worry though, the Chinese will be along to buy a few boats, reverse engineer them, make the boat themself, sell here for a fraction of the cost, and you and I can all have new boats that look just like that one you always wanted. Should be offered at Wallmart soon.

Got my Ultra May of 2010. Thought John had a few others in the works last year.

What I read is he had sold 3 boats early summer and thought he could stay afloat. Kept Ultra going through summer on his own dime and did not sell another so he decided to call it quits as he was draining his personal funds to keep it afloat. Have the aricle somewhere it also mentions how many Ultras were produced when he owned company. 2008 2009 killed the manufacturers. Only the best seem to have survived this economy.

Well when most boats used cost more then some cars brans new who can afford a new one. I bought mine used two years ago for 28000 OTD. It's a 2004 with a 496mag kinda off brand being a Renegade and all and still pricy!!
One of my Favorite boats right now is the Ultra shadow 26 footer, I dont even want to know how much that would be brand new. It sucks for the builders right now but it will all come around again. People will make money on there homes and buy boats again. It's a terrible cycle but it the truth....;)

Bought my new boat in April 2008. It is not a performance boat by any means but I still love it to this day, as do the kids!

Also bought a new Rhino at the same time in 2008.
