The first guy I'd personally call for anything machining anywhere near Vegas would be Racey. If they don't handle it, I am sure they can point you to the right guy.

Ah, sounds like another extremely highly respected builder that I know of in California who doesn't do outside machine work.

I looked up his shop, and it looks like he does custom fabrication and machining. Does he do engine machine work? I am in need of a shop that can install a block sleeve, check aligne bore, turn cranks and such.
I will have to give him a shout.

Any one have any experiance with vegas machine?
Barry, I tried to find the thread that you had mentioned about Vegas machine, but had no luck. I will keep searching, some times you have to enter tat just right keyword.

I've heard good things about Vegas Machine, I've used Fultz before, and lots of guys i know send their stuff to Fultz and have for years also, He is good friends with Dan Shimalla (sp?) from Dan's Driveline, who is the go to engine dyno guy here in Vegas. Fultz Machine will be listed on google or in the phone book.

He also needs to know who not to use,, and PM is the cool way to do that. I reached out to a friend over there but have not heard back from him yet.

Pretty sure Racey is not doing engine machine work, but I would call and ask, then see who he may recommend, since Shane and his dad are super quality oriented.

That's 19.5 longer than a guy I used in Phoenix.

Mine went back before I even put the heads on, the cam wouldn't even go in. Shoulda been a red flag then. Had them "balance and assemble" short block also install cam bearings...

I've had heads done and rocker studs pull out during break in. Guess who eats all the labor to tear it all down again? It's hard to find a reliable machine shop, when you finally do though, don't ever question the price on anything. Lol.

This is true, but I WAS a jet bote owner, we are the bottom of the barrel, in fact I still do have another hull, but screw the headache a twin turbo ls deal will be the ticket.

Check with Fauset racing. Ric is on the Central Coast but is racing in Vegas all the time. He builds car and boat race motors. You can find him online.

Pretty ironic your 10 hour motor and my 20 hour motor came from the same shop! I still have the block in my backyard, made a huge mistake and scrapped the crank without getting all the mallory metal out of it, guess that shit is kind of expensive.

any chance named after a skeletal part and located in boulder city?

Hahahahahaha so you've fallen victim to them as well? :D

(I Haven't, i know better, but i know a shitload of people who have)

----------

Edit: Someone mentioned Terry Kell's above, KAM (Kell Automotive Marine) does a lot of very cool stuff, but it's all pretty high end and not cheap. Terry is a sharp guy, i've spent a few hours at his shop bs'ng with him, he has built some pretty cool stuff, and has a dream machine shop, A big Fadal 5 axis that he does head porting and mold work on, a couple Haas 3 and 4 axis machines, and Haas Lathe.

After having countless circle track small blocks built for the last 15 years I've used almost everyone in Vegas. Kells and fultz were some of the best as long as price and time wasn't an issue, universal,Vegas, jacks ect I would never have them do another for me. Then I found a guy over the hump in Pahrump at JEM racing engines that built me quite a few and had real good luck. I had a couple 383 strokers built by him that I got over 50 nights each out of which is really good for methanol motors in the dirt at 8200 rpms with only around $7000 budget.

Nordie, Jacks did not build the engine, but Jacks screwed up the block, when boring.

Every motor i’ve seen come out of Insane Power didn’t make it past the first trip out.
that's interesting. i have been to his shop many times (i build harnesses for him) and its pretty serious down there. 3 dynos, CNC machines, etc. the stuff i have seen looked like all first class builds with premium parts and excellent machine work.

Out of everyone I've inquired about HBR is the only builder without any negative reviews that's impressive!!

Yeah, never been there myself, all i know is the shop next to where i have my boat works on an Eliminator cat with two Viper V10 motors built by Brett at Insane. Those motors seem like they are out of the boat more than they are in it.

Jeremy at HBR built the 460 in my Spectra, runs awesome and zero issues in two seasons. Mild build with aluminum heads made 550hp on their dyno.

I’d give Barry a call. If he was closer to me I probably would have had him build mine. I learned a lot doing it though. The machine work took forever at the shop I used up here.

He's in Parker imn Vegas and he doesn't pull motors. After I had everything done then transport motor back and forth it would end costing a lot more plus the headache. I'm going to pm him and get a better idea.

My boat doesn’t have a speedometer, so I used the GPS app on my phone and the best I have seen when I was down at Willow Beach on the river was 64 at 5000rpm. I am not sure how accurate these phone GPS speedometer‘s are though.

That’s exactly what I went for, I was tired of my boat being in the shop more than on the water. I really didn’t care about a number on the Dyno or speed in the boat, reliability was my number one concern.

My sons runs 60 with the ford probably 400 hp so I guess I should be happy with that

funny i saw the engines. apparently what was thought to be a "motor problem" turned out to be cracked exhaust manifolds (apparently CMI viper headers are known for this) were leaking back into the motor. cant really blame that on the builder.
