I "borrowed" this off of another forum. I wonder how legit it is to copy pics out of another forum? Anyhoo, concrete is your friend in this case! This will probably suck up every yard of concrete out of the area for a while!

How much of the ramp was pushed into the water?
Spending that kind of money, tells me the lake will be low for years (almost like they know the low level will be maintained).
I was just thinking the same thing.. Seem like a lot of $$ to invest in a ramp, but if they anticipate that the lake level will continue to be low then that would help to justify the expense.

AND, I would bet they let it keep dropping these last 10-20 feet to easily build the ramp then conveniently they'll bring it back up so the ramp is usable. I don't see any dams or drydock areas at the bottom of the ramp to get it down lower than current water level. Just a thought.

The lake is still huge and provides for the best boating in my personal opinion. For my set up with an express cruiser the abundance of soft and deep sandy beaches makes my overnight set up about a 2 minute process. Lightly touch up on the beach and walk out my anchor on the windlass and set it in the sand about 75 feet of rode.

So personally, as someone who lives up here split time all I care about is the NPS continuing to provide workable launch ramps. I don't particularly care about "low" or "high" or whatever, just get me on the water and I will see you in 3-4 days. Just get the concrete/asphalt down the the waterline and I can handle the rest. 30 years of owning 4x4 trucks is finally paying off and dipping the boat trailer onto pipe extenders, gravel or dirt doesn't bother me one bit.

I do have empathy for the laketime or other houseboats on the hard that are loosing out this year....

You have the life.

My wife and I keep kicking around getting a 27-29’ cruiser for Powell. Our happiest times were captaining boats on Powell and BVI.

I have never been more of a Cruiser fanboy that I am currently. We have had ours for 7 years now and I absolutely never regret a second of that choice to go for the comfort!

You should see the dirty looks I get going through the maytag straights at 30 mph with my wife and a friend sitting at the table drinking mimosas!

This is Gunisght Bay as seen from Alstrom Point. This is a frequently photographed view, you’ve probably seen it before. I was cruising YouTube tonight and found a video of a family that made a trip there and took pictures on 8/23/2021.
This is a picture I took with my phone of my TV so quality isn’t really great but if you are familiar with this view of the lake it’s a sad pic IMO.

Wow
To what extent can you 4 wheel out there from warm creek to the cut and beyond. Might be fun to tool around when the weather cools

Daauuummm it looks like there's plenty of Beach front property to maybe put in a nice Beach front RV park right in front of Castle Rock 😲

Its pretty endless.. you can wheel all over the place and way past warm creek. The Road NP230 (Crosby Canyon) out of the back of the north end of Big Water is well maintained etc... Lots of people camp out there in RVs. FYI it was about 60 degrees this morning and my windows are all still open at 8:53am. Its 74 degrees in my office. So I agree you would not want to hike or open air vehicle wheel at 2 pm when its 100 degrees. But we still go hiking at 7 pm and I would totally take my AC jeep out and explore. I would say after Labor Day the wheeling season is pretty much starting.

The boating community hardly looks up past the lake, but the off road and vanlife/RV people invade the area above the lake all fall/spring. Its a Jeep o rama dorkle fest up here in the offseason and I own a jeep, so I am part of the problem.

That photo from Gunsight Canyon is crazy - I've waterskied through there a bunch of times. I haven't been to Powell for a few years now, but used to go several time a year. Somewhere near Castle Rock is a nice stainless steel bimini top from my parents' 24' Spectra that came off the boat sometime in the mid 80's..

How big of an RV can you get down there? Sound like a place I would like to go.

The main road NP230 is graded and as long as you stay i that you can go back for quite a few miles. But that’s not my cup of tea. It would rattle the heck out of a big Rv. It’s pretty baren along that road… it get fun when your turn off of that road and head down the trails to the various well know lake bays like warm / padre / last chance etc… but I see crazy Rv people out there off the main road? I wheel a jeep with about 18 psi in the tires! Lol
