Hey Flying Lavey,

Have you heard what's up with the water releases at Nac?

http://www.lakenacimientolive.com/Information/lake-nacimiento-water-level.html

Only mid-May and it's down to 85%? :hmm
Oh don't get me started!! I think we're gonna have a HUGE legal battle here soon between the 2 counties. Monterey county owns the lake, dam, and about 80% of the water but none of the property around it. They have pulled out all their park rangers from both lakes and are basically telling any resident on San Luis County to pound sand. They are also pushing for a transfer pipe from lake to lake. If that happens, I have zero doubt they will intentionally almost drain Naci to keep San Antonio full which is whoely in Monterey County.

A buddy of mine was telling me that the water level at Oak shores is so hi you cant even park the trailer and truck at the their main launch ramp due to the water level? I also hear there's a rattle snake issue due to the water level?

I don't care, I'll see ya in June and looking forward to it.

They pulled all the park rangers ? Does that mean no over enforcement of rules ? Why can't Havasu pull all their LEO's ? LOL !

Same shit, different year.
It seems more compounded this year than prior years.

The rattlesnakes seem to come in waves from year to year. Nothing too crazy. Just gotta keep an eye out.

I am looking forward to that aspect of it.

Did I read somewhere that monterey county wants to "Restore" the salinas river, which I assume would require WATER ?

The "restore" project is more a restore the river banks project. I think one of the largest issues (outside of political shit suspect water management) are the environazis mistaking the Salinas and Nacimiento rivers for year round rivers when in fact naturally they are seasonal flows due to the fact that there is no snow pack or excessive natural springs that feed those rivers. They aren't releasing it at the point where it'll drain the lake in 1 summer or anything but it's still at a very high and a concerning rate.

Hey FL, how's the water level looking with these rains the past week? Come up any? The webcams are down and have been down for a while.

So far I believe it's up about 7 feet or so. Still down about 40 feet from this time last year.

looks like 44% on Friday...
http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/home/showdocument?id=22189
hopefully a little bump with yesterdays rain...heard is was heavy in isolated areas, not sure if it hit the Nadi watershed?
It was about 6 or 7 hours of rain yesterday. I think there were a couple short blasts of high rain but overall it wasn't too terribly much. As of right now they are expecting these next few storms to give us water.

Oh there's plenty of water to play in still and will be all summer. I'm sure Lee would love to see another Schiada on the lake besides his, Stan's, and Alexi's.

I think it may be too late to organize it now. I was super busy before and it was really looking bleek on the rain front til these last few weeks so I decided to for go a semi-organized thing this year. If someone else wanted to organize it and pick a date and what not, I'd be happy to help them.

Just got worf about this.....

Monterey county has submitted for approval an increase in lake water releases at such a huge increase that if not much more water comes into the lake, the lake level would be down into the 20% range by July. The county is notorious for this bullshit and we need help stopping them for pulling another stunt.....

Sign this petition and pass it on to others....

Jebus!!! I've never seen it this low! And they're still draining? Might just see a 100% dry lake FL!

Makes me sick. The mismanagement throughout all levels in this state is mind boggling.

Fuckin depressing. This is oak shores at the west ramp (the red truck in the distance is backed down west ramp). Lakes dry west of the west ramp. Narrows all dry. I’ve never ever seen it this low.

I find it odd that they let the water down this much. I thought the point of a "lake" was to maintain the water level between certain points and to release the excess.

This whole thing is such a shit show. If we dont get much water this winter were all in for a world of hurt. If the lake goes to dead pool levels Heritage's primary water source will be dry as it is in the river downstream of the dam. Heritage is tied into the SLO pipeline for a secondary source if need be which pulls from the bottom of the dam, below the lower gates. But, that water will, come with a MUCH better price tag and, if we dont get the rain needed..... That could run dry next summer. If this lake gets down to deadpool (which it never has in its history) and we dont get rain, there will be TONS of lawsuits filed for gross mismanagment or a natural resource.

Also, if the lake doesnt rebound this year, property values will plummet and if the housing market dips in general any firther before the lake rebounds, any of us that bought within the last 4 years could be upside down.

Just curious when the lake goes dry where do all the fish go and how does it get restocked when the water level comes up.

Onto fisherman's lures. Lol! No idea. Maybe this is the brilliant plan to eliminate the invasive white bass that is in the lake? Doubtful though. More than likely there is some big money behind their decisions.

I got my box anchor from a guy that found it while fishing from the shore a few years ago when the water level was down 40 feet I paid 60 shipped. Get a metal detector and go find shit.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll,make sure to be ready to do some sport watching. There will always be one idiot that tries to follow where they shouldn't.

I’m betting you’ll see a lot of that in the next few months if it doesn’t start raining hard.

I'll be honest I hope we get no rain this year so lawyers can stick the lawsuits up Monterey County's ass.
The thought has crossed my mind. Also, my boat needs a fair amount of work too.

If that's true that is the biggest mismanagement of resources I have ever seen. Homeowners at the lake should be suing.
