My first time skiing on Mead! Brian Vesely and I went to Mead last week to hook up with our Canuck Foil Buddies. They store their rollbar boat in Boulder for the winter as their lake's water is too hard to ski on. We drove up to meet them before they trailer their boat home 25 hours North to Alberta. We had awesome conditions.

Welcome to Mead.
That area on the other side of the Narrows that was so flat is called the Virgin Basin.
Our favorite play spot.
When it’s good, it’s awesome.

MEAD IS CLOSED! :D

Well, it took me almost 50 years to find it and its 4 plus hours away from my Parker pad so it is pretty much closed for me! Going through the narrows reminded me of Powell.

The best kept secret is east of Temple bar , a whole new and deserted lake . I like to tow and launch out of Temple Bar and go boating out that way .

Air chair is crazy smooth once you get it down. The learning on the other hand can have it's ouch moments.

I like to stay at the El Rancho in Boulder City . It’s clean , boat right outside room and close to downtown Boulder . It’s not a bad drive to Temple Bar , beats having to boat across the basin on a windy / rough day .

That's the point of having a 27. Launch out of Boulder or Hemenway and enjoy your boat. Even coming back across four foot rollers our 27 ate it up.

We always launched out of Callville, camped at middlepoint, and made our ice/trash runs to Temple Bar.

Now we have a house in Boulder, so usually launch out of Boulder Harbor. I still want to call it Lake Mead Marina.

I've been on the lake twice, absolutely loved it! I plan on heading up there this summer with the Hallett a few times. :)

Though we moved our boating to Havasu a while back to be with my dad, i started staying at the El Rancho in the early 70s when I was a teen, raised my family there as well. Launch at Hemenway and first stop is Middle Point, past the Narrows!

Dave, if you do come up here to Mead this summer, be sure to let me or my brother Primecut know. We are always out on the lake during the summer. Maybe my brother might break out the Dragoncraft and give you a run in it if the conditions are good.

It was a great trip. It’s been forever since I’ve been there. Went there a lot for ski races years back.

In all of my years of boating, i have never been and have always wanted to.

Anyone know of any cool camp grounds or is it better to just crash in a hotel?

All of the "camp" grounds at Lake Mead are operated by the NPS, they are pretty rough. Most marinas have a campground. Forever resorts opened up two RV parks. One at Boulder Beach and one at at Echo Bay. There is no longer a marina at Echo Bay, but there is a launch ramp. They also have RV spots in their trailer villages at Temple Bar and Callville Bay. Make reservations through the Hotel. If you really want to rough it there is Gregg's Hideout. It is fairly remote and a restroom is the only facilities. No water, no electricity, no launch ramp. About a 15 to 20 minute boat ride from Temple Bar. You will most likely be alone as I have never seen anyone camping there.

Lake mead is way too crowded, and super rough water, and a 35 mph speed limit. Don’t go there.

Oh wait. I mean Arrowhead...

What is your definition of camping? Find a protected cove. Bath in the lake, crap in the bushes.

Some call it wilderness camping. It is all I have known. Met my wife. She says my family is going camping. Cool. I arrive to see a 100 rv's in a parking lot.

WTF? Camping??? Camping is about getting away.

Yes camping- in my 40' air conditioned condo in a lot next to 100 other RV's with a comfortable bed, AC, bathroom, shower, coffee, and most important TV's!!

As appealing as your version sounds, The wife and I have done exactly what you stated but its kind of a tough with 3 little ones varying in age of 2-6 especially in the middle of summer.

Thanks for your input

Nice part at Mead the RV spots are way better. Not like going to Carp. You can watch tv at home hahaha.

Check out Callville Bay. RV spots are nice.

My uncle has a houseboat at Temple bar. I love it out there!! Boating to the mouth of the Grand Canyon is pretty cool especially on calm days where you can see the dirty water and Mead water mixing.

Agreed.
I remember the days when the water flow and levels allowed us to go up the River into the Grand Canyon for 10 plus miles. And that was in our 32 Spectra.

In 87 we took our 24 ft Sea Ray all the way to the falls.

We stayed on that island outside Pearce Ferry at the mouth of the Grand Canyon in ‘86 with the houseboat, we would go have lunch at the falls during the day

It’s just parallel with the West Point of sandy’s peninsula, you can still beach up on the south side
