do you guys plan on bringing other boats too? anyway renting houseboats is a royal pain in the ass, and all the the marinas are owned by the same corp now! so the prices will be the same no matter which marina! if i was going to do it i would go with callville bay marina...reason i asked if you guys are bringing boats is i heard a rumor that echo bay is going to rent their houseboats as hotel rooms...meaning the boat stays in the marina, but it a hotel room...and i believe the rumor also said its a couple hundred a night...believe the houseboat sleeps 8-10...otherwise you guys will be looking at around 500 to 1200 a night...splitting that up with a bunch of people cant be too bad...that was from callville...reason i recommend callville is your only 45 mins from the strip, and callville has a bar, and tons of other ammenities...echo bay and temple bar are going to be your two more desolate marinas with not much to offer if you need something!

Thanks Nordie. We are planning on bringing up 3-4 boats and about 8 pwcs. We are looking to beach every night, so the rumor about keeping them in the marina would suck if true.

I'll check pricing tomorrow.

just echo bay marina is going to do that policy...they shut down their motel and bar/grille...and decided to have a snack bar and their house boats as the motel...the other marinas drive you and your group out of the marina, because they dont need renters dring 50 foot plus boats in the marina, and you have free reign of lake mead...you guys will be able to beach and moore the boat and stay for the weekend...when heading back in you call the marina, just outside of the break wall and they send someone out to drive the boat in! once again i would highly recommend callville, and if you guys are looking for a good hang out for the weekend kind of in the middle and the run of a mill lake experience...just beach the boat at sandy beach, its a popular hangout...from there take the boats out and explore!!!! I would recommend wishing well, the virgin basin, swallow bay...and from callville its about a 20 minute boat ride to the dam!

Contact Forever Resorts at Callville Bay. They are also the one's that run the houseboats out of Temple Bar. Callville is by far the best place to start from, IMO.

True but it's twice the money, and twice as far away.

House boats are into the $10,000 range for 5-7 days now up at powell

If you do mead with a houseboat you definitely want to be in the upper basin. Leaving from temple bar/echo bay would be best since it's already in the upper basin. Less time travelling with the house boat, less gas for the houseboat. The only thing is you need to make sure you have ALL the food and booze you need, temple bar has a small restaurant and convenience store and that's it. Basically it's good for ice and soda.... echo bay has a little bit more but not much. Temple bar means further by car (unless you are coming from havasu, then it's faster) if you are coming from the vegas side then callville is the closest, and echo bay is about 45mins to an hour further by car.

Are there private rentals on Mead or Powell?

At Powell there are a lot of houseboat time share owners who rent out there boats (much nicer houseboats usually) when they can't use their week. I don't know how you get a hold of them.

We normally go to Powell and leave the rigs at lone rock, but this year some friends want to do house boats together. They don't want to go all the way to Powell for 5 days:(
