Tickets are $50.00 at presale, who knows how high they will go at the gate, my guess is $100.00 +

They will keep raising prices as it gets closer.

We’re running 4400 this year.👊 the class has outgrown us for sure, and handful of these guys are on a whole different level these days, some are stupid fast and getting paid big money, 4400 is kind of a shit show now because of the money, brings out the “cunt factor” in people, course cutting, cheating when no one’s looking, etc… Honestly I don’t even pay attention to that competitive side of it at this point, we’ll show up and have fun, see how it goes, this ain’t the day job😂

I was reading it the other day and it’s confusing but i think that’s not an entry ticket to hammertown.
HT entry tickets are for sure $50 now and $75 later and probably $100 at the gate.
i think it’s just a link to ??? maybe the online viewing upgrade package… dunno I didn’t get that far and I could be wrong (not unusual)
I don’t remember how much the online viewing package upgrade was last year vs. $25 for life.
Early on in KOH history Dave did do a $25 for life entry pass or similar $ but that ain’t it.

Jeff is driving now, and one of his boys will pull rope and stack rocks😂

Fabio is building a wazoo 4400 car for some dude overseas, not sure what that will end up doing, no rzr that I’m aware of. I’m encouraging the boys to buy a class 11, aswell I’ve been asking dave for a rental car class😂

As I have the last few years, I will be supporting a couple class 11 cars.
Fast Felix and VETTS Racing.
Might also help pit Robert Stewart in 1600.

picked up my $50 ticket last week

The tickets are confusing. $25 camping pass, then do you need another ticket to watch? Not actually race?

Haven't ever been.

To get an rv across the bridge on Boone road you will need a camping pass, to get your body into hammertown you will need an entry ticket.

You can camp out in the desert and watch the race for free also. If you have never been you’ll want to camp in the dust bowl on the lake bed and go into hammertown. You can drive around from hammertown, to back door, to chocolate thunder and camp on top of each other, it’s great fun 👍

Since 20010 KOH has gotten worse and worse.
I’d say that depends on what you’re looking for with the experience and if your racing or spectating. The technology and application of it that’s been developed on these cars because of the demands of the race are bad ass and it’s trickled down to the general public and mass produced market of off road vehicles/SXS etc…

For an event that draws 60,000+ people it’s actually not to bad, the crawler crowd is different than the go fast crowd for sure. If you spend your week driving in circles on the lakebed eating dirt, yes there are better ways to experience this event. We moved out of hammertown years ago, that vibe is long gone. We’ll run in to take care of business or catch a show or socialize, but I try to stay out of the dust as much as possible.

The event is what you make it out to be, no more, no less.

Some of the more popular teams have been course-cutting the whole time.

I try to channel my regrets into lessons. Like when I think flexing marketing experience into the development of another event that in ten years will ruin my fun little slice of heaven, I reflect on KOH.

Downloaded the app and it is an entry ticket with the code. Includes one child 12 and under. Assume for life as long as they use the same app.🤷‍♂️

We go for a day and park on the lakebed, I’m not interested in driving my truck the traffic near hammer town. I did the first time and had no idea they charged but went thru the desert to avoid the traffic. Last year we were there the last day and went to pay to go into hammertown and the guy wouldn’t sell us a ticket or let us go in for free because they were closing up. Ended up walking thru a gap in the fence and bought a steering wheel and seat belts. Watching the cars race is cool but sometimes that time between cars going by gets extended. We will go again but I wouldn’t if I had to pay, it’s just not that entertaining, it’s a nice day with the wife in her sxs and a nice dinner on the way home.

It’s funny, we never even thought to try course cutting as a strategy, had a hard enough time just trying to find the damn course and keep our knuckleheads going the right direction on it. I don’t think we’re capable of strategic course cutting and getting back on course, our radio comms are pure comedy, “hey where you at? I’m in the desert, where you at? 🤦‍♂️ “are you heading towards the sun or away from the sun? A little of both sometimes.” 🤦‍♂️

Having English as a second language driver just added to the entertainment value for us. We’ll see how co driver does now that he’s at the wheel. I’m stoked we’re racing this year, but I don’t have any expectation of top 10 as I once did, it’s just progressed past our skillset, which is fine because we know it. 😂

We live there for like two weeks, I’m not gonna lie, it gets weird after a while out there. When you r bbqing ribs for breakfast and cracking beers to chase it down, and don’t think twice about it, you know you’ve hit the sweet spot of being an unsupervised adult😂 our crew is about 50 people deep off an on over the event, some will commute into work from the desert.

I agree with you. If we go anymore we camp before the “entrance” on Boone Rd. and then cruise around to all the spots. The downloadable maps are a big benefit now. We get the radio cloned and use the maps to move around to find the leaders. One issue that I have are the Gestapo volunteers who will chase you around and tell/yell at you to you go back to the spectator designated areas. With a map you can stay the 150 feet off of the course and view from anywhere in the desert. Then you’ll have these volunteers, drive up to you and scream to get off the race course even if you’re the required distance away. They always threaten to have “the rangers come” and “arrest you” or “impound your vehicle.” It’s pretty absurd! I always invite them to have the rangers come talk with us.

The best part of KOH now are the weekend warriors who take over the trails at night. That’s like the race was before the MDR incident that changed all the spectating rules for organized events.

I have been going for several years now. Started camping away from the shit show and dust bowl.

I love the shoot out. I’m glad they moved it out of back door and over to thunder.

Nighttime action is the best just watch out for rangers.

As I get older I realize that worrying about winning races or winning kids soccer games all the way thru college was a waste of time because the value in the time was how the time was spent. By that I mean I can't remeber wins and losses anymore, I only remember the friends I made or lost because of it and I regret losing some great friends because of it.

I buy the ticket for the Sublime concert and the ability to buy funnel cakes. Everything else is a bonus👍🏻

You bring that sign truck and we could start riots and create mass pandemonium 😂 View attachment 1272581 View attachment 1272580
I was going to make a sign like that and put Rd’s cell # on it.

Nope, I never got a response and just chalked it up to a learning lesson.

As a spectator only I would agree with the original post. Don’t see myself going anytime soon. Being that the majority of people are spectators and have less tolerance for things than maybe a competitor would, I won’t spend my money to be around the knuckleheads that ruin the experience.

Those $20 fish tacos are killer. The fried pepper that comes with them are killer!

The pizza is good as well.
So glad La Bufadora was a sponsor for one of the class 11 cars I helped last year (buddy was the co-driver). Tacos became 50% off :)

True story, 2019 La bufadora shows up and won’t pay to be in hammertown, he set up on private property at the corner of Joshs road and Boone, back about 300 yard from that intersection. We’re cruising by and figure wtf, let’s go talk to them and see what’s up. We order some carne asada tacos and dude is telling us you need to try my fish tacos, they are amazing. At some point the topic came up that he wants us to eat fish in the middle of the desert off from a pop up called “the blow hole” 😂 we all laughed and he said I’m going to give the the fish tacos for free just so we will try them.

Those tacos were the shit and we consumed several a day for the next week, brought the whole team, we’re having tacos dispatched to our remote pits by radio, we even offered to just have him move his trailer over to Joshs place so we didn’t have to run out to the corner. I don’t think he sold many tacos that year, a couple other teams figured it out. He kills it now that he’s inside hammer town, he still remembers us from 2019 which is cool.

There are things that veteran spectators learn and they are able to modify their experience and make it how they like it. I’m not Julie the cruise ship entertainment director so I just tell newbies to set up in the dust bowl and drive in circles between hammertown, back door, and chocolate. Some people really like that loop, others figure out that the whole desert is wide open and there are amazing days to be had out wheeling around with your pals, spectating the different race classes and bbqing trailside. 😉 if we’re not racing we refer to our selves as a culinary assault team. It’s all about good food in remote places, most of the Jeeps are setup for cooking amazing meals. One of my favorite quick lunches is to heat up ribs from the night before on the manifold of the buggy.

Or you can drive around in the dust and eat soggy sandwiches, to each his own😂

FWIW @whiteworks you spoiled me last year. If I return to KOH it has to include your accommodations. I actually think Angie might enjoy it again.

First year I went it was 31 degree when we rolled back to camp at 1pm. Froze my ass off that night. Modified my camping plan after that (heating blanket) and I own @Deckin Around old ToyHauler now.

Coldest night of my life was on that lakebed in February 10+ years ago, sleeping in a non insulated cargo van, I had all my warm Shit on and was inside two sleeping bags. I remember waking up and seeing my breath just hanging in the air above my face. When I built the new van it got insulated aswell as a commercial grade cab heater. Sometimes you’re prepared, and other times you learn about being prepared😂

You never know how it’s gonna be out there, could be shorts and t shirts or Canadian goose Antarctic parka weather in February, sometimes both.
