This is bullshit.

All these Korean cars blow the engines. It's NOTHING NEW!!!

They have to cover this. Have you talked to the service manager? The parts and service director? The dealership principal?

Bitch LOUDER!!!
Debs sister's Kia Soul's engine blew about 6 months ago. They have been fighting Kia the entire time. Koreans want to be like Americans except admitting any sort of guilt whatsoever.

Eric from I Do Cars youtube channel tears down these several times a year. Nearly always there is a block inspection port with "Uncle Rodney" blocking the view.

Kia and Hyundai share the same engines. They have been the same company for a while now.

Here is some information on the software update. The soul wasn’t listed but I found it covered under the. Extended warranty settlement somewhere else.

Blew up the ex-wife's Hyundai Tucson's motor up on the way down to the RDP Topock cruise years ago. Took about two months of dealership crap (rental car included) but got a new motor out of the deal as she had the oil changed on time every 3000 miles at the dealership up here.

What causes the oil consumption? Stuck rings, valve seals, or??? What is the consensus on what the failure is?

Our dealership now is yapping about “cleaning” the motor which consists of filling it with something and letting it sit for X amount of time (days) then monitoring oil consumption.

These have KIA engines in them, we beat on them like a red headed step child and have yet to window a block. We did have one recently that was a fire breathing monster, it looked like it was on nitromethane with the 18" flame shooting out the exhaust 🤣

Received word today that Kia is replacing the engine in daughter’s 2018 soul under warranty at 102k miles. Big relief as I do all service at home.

Didn’t ask us to provide service records. It’s my understanding reading terms of settlement that the engine has to show signs of exceptional neglect in order to request those. 🤷‍♂️

They replaced my wife’s Sorento at 99k too.

While I wish the motors were more reliable. Kia has been pretty good to us on replacing them. Unlike the Ford 6.0 Diesel that blew up at 67k miles back in the day.

Just picked up daughter’s 2018 Kia Soul.

New long block installed under warranty at 102k. Zero out of pocket and No service records requested.

Think its worth mentioning that if ever taking one in under warranty. It’s important that it doesn’t show signs of exceptional neglect.
General appearance inside and out should be iclean. Crankcase full of relatively clean motor oil. Preferably Kia oil filter. Most importantly the knock sensor software upgrade by recall has to be done.

As mentioned before, wifes Sorento engine was replaced at 99k under warranty. Citrus Ford Kia handled both. Can’t say enough good things about their service department in Ontario.
