Kawasaki SXR1500 Oil Filter Wrench

Anyone have any ideas for options besides a Kawasaki oil filter wrench/socket for friggin $52? I ain’t paying that. I have one that fits the filter but then there’s no room to get a ratchet on it and there’s no hex on the socket to get a regular wrench on it.

I thought about water pump pliers but that will destroy the filter and may not remove it.

Not enough room for a strap wrench.

Not gonna stab the filter with a screwdriver, that will fill the bilge with oil.

Any ideas guys?

Pics would help, and you can use the cavemen tools with a little finesse and not destroy the filter.

If it's really on that tight do you think the $50+ wrench will even work?
also a strap wrench will except a wrench, you don't need to use a ratchet

I was able to get one off with a big pair of channel locks. If this is the first oil change you've done...that sucker will be on extra tight!

that appears like a pretty robust a universal sized tool. Somebody really had a good idea in that design.

Wife’s Kawai I bought it at Walmart. It’s a fit 2 sizes deep, fit the Onan and her Kawai. Jus sayin maybe what you are looking for.

The one I have is deep and fits the existing Kawi filter, but then I can’t get the ratchet on it because the filter socket is up against the sidewall of the jetski.

I've got a Yamaha sled that has a similar issue. I've been >< close to cutting the 3/8" ratchet adapter off one of those metal cups - and welding a long metal bar or strap across the bottom to use as a handle.
I had to stab this one on the first oil change.

Okay the first thing I gotta say is that the Kawi engineers need to be hit with a shovel! Fuckers! They could have put a remote oil filter somewhere easier than where it was on the side of the engine.

I could only get one hand in there and I was working blind, only able to see through a small area b/t the intake manifold. After 2 1/2 hours of trying everything I know, ie, mother fucking it, throwing tools, throwing my wife’s beach bag that was nearby, wrapping the filter in electricians tape, duct tape, drilling my filter socket so I could put a screwdriver through it, I finally got the old oil filter off.

The Workpro universal filter wrench did it. It wouldn’t work at first because I needed a second hand in there to hold the filter wrench in place. I then figured out how to hold it with my thumb while turning the ratchet. Bingerfang, I owe you a beer.

Then I was so proud of myself I got cocky and when putting oil back in the engine, I poured some over the top of the engine.
Faaawk, stop laughing, I’m out.
