With Jeep doing 15% off 2023 Gladiators I am toying with the idea of scooping one up as a daily driver. Biggest concern is quality/reliability. Has anyone had any experience with them? Won’t be towing with it and will just use it to drive around town/shuttle dirt bikes and mt bikes. Also considering the idea of buying a manual but know these are potentially prone to issues as well. Currently driving a 2013 tundra with 185k miles.

Sales of the Gladiator are down supposedly 30% YOY. I believe the Honda Ridgeline is outselling it 😳

No idea why? I’m not a fan of Jeeps but the Gladiator always looks nice esthetically to me.

Poor Jeep has never had a reputation for being reliable.

My bud bought one a few years back for his daughter, and they lemon lawed it due to electrical issues.

But if it's what fits your life style, get a good factory extended warranty to go with it.

Make em throw it in, no charge, as part of the deal. 👍🏼

Gonna go test drive then this weekend and will ask about extended warranty options.

I would absolutely love to have a new Jeep, but quality issues friends have had leave me gun shy. I'll keep my 07 tundra, no tunin', no spooling, no tooling, no foolin'.

The gladiator will never be a new 1/2 ton truck but they work pretty good for a daily with limited highway mileage.

They ride better than the JL's due to the extra wheel base.

The 3.6 and 8 speed auto are a good combo and pretty bullet proof. Throw and aev lift kit on it with some 35-37" tires and it will go a ton of places.

BTW you should be able to get closer to 25% off gladiators if you shop. I would head north and avoid Stephen Wade like the plague.

I have a 22 Overland model and I love it. Have had 11 different jeeps over the years including a couple of LJs I wish I still had. Easy to work on (the older ones) and with lift lockers and tires will go about anywhere. This one will stay stock because that’s what mama wants. Rides ok (it’s a Jeep ok) 22 mpg highway going back and forth from Az to Co. Pulled loaded U-Haul to Co just fine. You either like jeeps or you don’t I guess. I love em.

At 4k miles the new 3 piece front axle blew known as the FAD system

The auto stop start relies on a jetski battery to start the truck. Its wisely under the main battery and under the huge fuse box ( must be disassembled to access the battery) mounted to the frame. So when it dies you don't always know, as it pulls on the main a battery until the main battery is dead. Now you cant jump the starter battery because its buried. tow time. I had both die ($825) under warranty. my buddy has had 3 full sets in his 2021.
After reinstalling them at the dealer one terminal wasnt tighten fully and shut down the entire electrical system on the freeway at 75 mph in rush hour at dusk. think about that, no power brakes steering lights blinkers. DEAD.

It got sold at 14k miles and I got a last-year JKU, fuck the JL and JT way too much BS and technology and down graded components

Why anyone would buy this as a daily driver is beyond me. Only way to justify owning one would be that you must have a small pick up set up as a Rubicon with high clearance and lockers

No issues with ours or my parent's. Decent crossover trail/TOAD with some utility having the bed. It is NOT a half ton truck and they are gutless as shit.

Nanny stuff is annoying: Open the door when rolling, auto park. Seat belts lock WAY too early, have to run chip clips to keep them from retracting if you decide to get out while on a hill. Need to disable the auto start/stop but at least that is easy.

All in all, pretty happy with ours, does what we want and hasn't been an issue... yet. :) I do miss my old TJ wrangler that had no electronics at all. :D

Anyone tow with their Gladiator? Pondering a new mid size truck, Canyon, Colorado or Gladiator etc, to tow our Hallett 240 bc 1/2 ton truck prices are insane 🤪

We have a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon with the diesel. We love it. The only issue we had was the two batteries going bad which were replace under warranty. We off-road it, tow our 24’ Lavey, and use it as a toad.

I was looking at them too, but all the dealers around here play games, you have to have a trade in, be ex military, qualify for stupid shit and finance the entire vehicle for 72 months at a stupid interest rate. If you walk in with cash, you won't get 15% off. I wanted to level it with 37" tires and bead locks, they look really tough for minimal work.

Just wait a few more months , they will be 50% off !
As others have said currently you can find them almost 25% off. I figure at some point you will probably find them closer to 50% off. There are several hundred 2023’s within 100 miles from me in the Salt Lake Valley. As other have said some lots even have 2022’s.

We got ours from Peterson in Nampa, Idaho. Well worth the drive. I’ll look up our salesman. He deals with people all over the US.

Had one jeep back in the late 80’s. Served its purpose.
I can only say when you drive by the Toyota dealers. Lots of used jeeps. Kind of has to tell you something.

We like our 2021 Rubicon, its been reliable and works great off road and as the tow behind. My wife uses it as her daily, but refers to it as "the wind tunnel". It is loud at 75 mph. Pretty stock, with 37's, it is very capable off road. I recently sold my 911 and mentioned buying a Cayenne GTS and her reaction was "you can have the jeep, ill take the Cayenne".

Did someone say the 3.6 is bulletproof? How's your plastic oil cooler or water pump? Lifters? AC Condenser? Ive never loved a car so much that I hate.
I didn’t hear bullet proof. But did hear reliable.
That said my 3.6 in my Chrysler with 65k ish miles is ticking like a moe foe. 🙄
That said. Love my wife’s convertible cool little car. Well when the top works. lol.

Either they are getting better, or just not enough complaints yet on the newer ones..

My buddy bought a new Gladiator Mojave. Since the Mojave package has a different suspension system on it the tow rating is somewhere around 5k. I'm not sure what the tow rating is on the rest of them.

I'm glad you said that and not me. I really did LOL when I read that comment! 🤣🤣🤣

and I know. Cover those intakes up. I did right after the photo.

Doesn't matter.

Towing with a short wheel base vehicle is a BAD idea. And this ain't something I read about.

I'm lucky I didn't die.

Agreed! Another bad idea is buying something and asking about tow ratings after it's in your name.

First and only time I towed my 18' Horizon with a Bronco II we left at night in a light rain. I approached the first signal, hit the brakes, aaand that boat pushed me straight thru the intersection while I was trying to turn left. It was only like 10-15mph but the wheels were turned left and we were still going straight. White knuckled the entire drive to the river after that. Never towed with it again.

I towed my 22’ Ultra stealth home with a 2000 wrangler with the 4.0 one time. Wasn’t the smartest but it worked. Definitely wouldn’t want to do it today. 😂

From what I read, the gladiator uses the ram 1500 frame, so it sort of separates itself from the other jeeps. I thought about one of those at one time but it just didn’t have the cabin room compared to the 1500. Fyo, Jim Marsh Jeep
In Henderson has a loaded 23 gladiator Mojave over 17,000 off.

I rented one for a few weeks in Florida on a work trip last year.

Gladiator shut off doing 70 mph on the highway, Left me stranded on the side of the road. I almost missed my flight home.

I wouldn’t own one personally.

In the 70’s we towed all types of boats with short wheelbase CJ5’s all the time, without AC or disc brakes.

And we all lived. 😬

In the 70's...

The only Acceptable river tow vehicle was a dropped 1 ton Chebby dually with a big block, and Alcoa's.

My how times have changed. 😎

All i can offer, is that I've never worked on a vehicle so much in my life, as I have throughout the longterm ownership of my wifes 2013 Wrangler Unlimited 3.6.

I'd keep one with a warranty only, especially if it has all the new mild-hybrid 48V stuff under hood, the 4xe hybrid stuff, or the turbo 2.0.....

Is it all back together now?

Well, I know who to call if I'm ever stumped on my wife's grand Cherokee.

It's sad because I absolutely love the car. I really do. But this 3.6 is a Gomer.

When I was a toddler my grandparents drove me to the river in Cadillacs and Chryslers. At 16-18 I was driving the family Olds station wagon or a Road Runner/Super Bee with a trailer hitch. Never an uncomfortable trip.
Then my buddy bought new in 1979 a GMC dually with all the bells n whistles.
That boys and girls, was a whole 'nother level of luxury. They really do make towing a boat across the desert a pleasure.
He still owns that truck and is currently building a 600+ci motor for it.
