Such places in Europe work as a hideout for many celebrities who want to go away unknown and be with the family. And they will be surrounded by celebrity friends.

Lake Como is the place where Renato Molinari built and tested his record setting outboard tunnels in the 1960s. IMO, Renato was among the three best tunnel hull racers of all-time (my other two choices are Bill Seebold and Jimbo McConnell).

I stayed Hotel Griso in Lecco on SE side of Como, fabulous mountain views. Really liked Bellagio, Villa D'este, Varenna. The tram ride top mountain in Como was cool, the boat cruise around the lake was great, but the Sea Plane ride was absolute best, totally amazing. Italy is whole different world.

It's definitely a lake. Shaped like inverted "Y" Como sits down in a basin area surrounded by mountains and divided by valleys which are the 3 points of inverted "Y". The center of the "Y" gets nasty winds that turn up Como like Tahoe. Como is absolutely incredible and awe inspiring as Tahoe, just not as clear.
