Is water skiing making a comeback where you boat?

On my part of the river (Not Parker and not the Lower river.......Somewhere in between) I see more and more skiers than in the past. Actual ski boats too. I've noticed a spike in the last few summers.

I kinda like that. :thumbsup

All my little ones are learning to ski before they try out a wakeboard.

Anyone else notice a surge in water skiers?

I have noticed more skiers in the last several years. This morning I watched a guy kick off his ski and barefooted. :thumbsup

Here's a pic from a few weeks ago.

I can't speak for others but I'm trying to get out more. Even if it is for a leisurely ride I enjoy it. I have a few skis already for my kids when they are older.

More to your question, I don't really see that many on Havi. A few south of Black Meadows, but rarely do I see any on the north end of the lake.

I have actually been looking for a new ski that is more modern and age/weight appropriate.:D

No kidding. I'm thinking I might need to get a sheet plywood, rip it down the middle and strap some bindings on them. Marine grade of course :p

In my age group (21) it seems to be making a small (emphasis on small lol) comeback. Out of all my friends only 2 or 3 of us ski everyone else wakeboards. But lately friends have been asking us to teach them how to ski. I love seeing other people skiing at havasu and Parker.

I just purchased a 85 centurion barefoot warrior strictly to ski and barefoot behind. Super flat wake and big outboard pops me right up. I want to get a boom and get my 5 year old up this year

Ha Ha. Yeah, A lot of sports today are geared toward the masses that don't posses the physical talent or dexterity.

Stand Up jet ski went the way of the Sit down skis
Dirt Bikes went the way of the Quads or SXS.
Skiing went the way of the wake board or tubers.

Until the day I'm in a walker I'll take my Stand Up, my 450 and my Maha. ;)

I like skiing more then wake boarding because of the speed and smooth ride!! I still wake board but only after my arms are tired from skiing!! :)))
None of my friends know how and when they try they give up to fast!! I think wake boarding is a lot easier to get up then ski's and this is why more people are on wake boards JMO!!!

All good til you mentioned 450.real men ride the 2 stroke 500s :D

Besides that i agree i still single ski and dont allow wakeboarding from my boat.tubes are fine as long as me or someone that will pull a tube like me is driving that does take some balls to hang on.Stand up skis rule i want ot get another one.

Last but not least IMO wakeboarding was invented for those who could not single ski!!

Getting up on 1 ski is alot more difficult than getting up on a wakeboard.I will say some wakeboarders sure are talented.I prefer to ski but I get alot more time behind the boat on a wakeboard.I still try to do both every time I get out.5 min of skiing and 25 of wakeboarding.

If you find yourself only able to ski 5 minutes, try a 360 and skiing wrapped up. 25-30minutes become easy, speed is much higher than wakeboarding, and you can jump too:D

I have skied all my life, but took a break to party. I have recently bought a proper ski for my size, new handle etc... Looking forward to hitting some buoys tomorrow and see if I can at least manage 15' off... :D

Since you have done the reconnaissance on the proper water skis, i'm 56, 5'9, 185 and haven't skied for some 30 years. What ski would you recommend?

For your age, weight and open water skiing I would look at the HO Comp Free Ride series, the "Charger" should be the right size for you. I am considering the same ski.

We were at the lake today and all I saw were wakeboarders and a few air chairs.

Depending on your skiing style,, a Maha 360 is hard to beat, very versatile, easy to ski higher speeds or longer distances, great wake jumper, and it still turns!
