Interior designers

Anyone have an interior designer willing to work in corona? What is it with these people? We did hire one and paid a fair fee for out initial consultation and ever since she’s been real hard to contact. It’s actually to the point where it’s holding up the show now. We are spending a bit of coin on this refurbish, I’m doing the electrical, the demo, even floor prep, some framing and carpentry everything I know how to do well enough. I hired a plumber for plumbing, painter for painting. HVAC guy for mechanical because I don’t know those trades. I’ve seen too many houses where the customer skimped on designer and even though they spent good money for quality craftsmanship, the results were tragic.

I can’t believe how hard it is to find a professional interior designer/decorator. They seem flakier than real-estate agents.

Most want to act as a General and make money on all the subs and materials. Not just off the design.

I am dealing with 1 now that is costing the homeowners a bunch of extra money. A few I have dealt with Mark up all materials 100% and you have to buy through them.

Good luck! My Ex was my designer for a while. I still run my designs by her to make sure there on par with today's wants.

I know a few contractors who will not work a job if they have to deal with a designer for this exact reason.

I call them…..”Inferior Decorator OR Interior Desecrators”. You are 100% right. They know design but not construction. They try to run the project With limited construction knowledge. Last one on Maui was trying to get me to funnel everything through her. Making the claim that she was going to bring me so much business. I went to the condo board direct to get our products approved. Next conversation she was begging me to include her. She was making more work that needed so she was not included moving forward by me. LOL

exactly. My dads company is one that will not work with a designer, when i was working with him, our marching orders where if the designer trys to tell you what to do, pack up and leave and call him. to be honest i never understood why people would pay someone else to tell them what they should put their house. engineer, OK tell me what needs to be load bearing and leave me to it. i have seen designers try to move a load bearing wall to the tune of 10's of thousands to have a doorway where they think it should be. when you ask them how? they just get a dumb look on their face.

1,000 Sqft first floor selecting colors and textures for flooring, cabinets, walls and window treatments. I don’t expect a professional to be cheep but I’m not willing to spend $10k either. We want to work around our existing cabinet layout, granite tops and plantation shutters in the living room. I don’t expect there to be more than 4-6 hrs work.

to be honest i never understood why people would pay someone else to tell them what they should put their house.

I’ve been doing this long enough to see both sides of your argument. Yes, I have dealt with some bat shit crazy designers but I have also seen some very disappointing results after people have winged it and picked their own colors.

We haven’t meet yet but I’m really glad to have her on board. Seems like she’s really knows her stuff. showing up right about the time the wallboard is repaired.

That first gal we paid really put us over the barrel. The $500 I paid for what amounts to nothing is bad but the real injury is the abandonment, we have painters scheduled because we need to get back in the house but we haven’t finalized colors yet. the cabinet and wall paints can be mixed same day but the cabinet doors are 3 weeks after ordering. The more I think about it, the more I need to leave a bad review on Angie‘s list. I hate doing that but really, she earned it.
