Kudos to them.

It's often said that your palate, and your sensation of taste, changes every 7 years or so.

I dunno if it's accurate, but I know what I think tastes good does sort of evolve over time.

Their burgers look nothing like the picture (none ever do), and the patties are wafer thin now. I finally understand why everybody orders a double-double.....so you actually get some hamburger meat.

Our version of In + Out is called A+W here in Canada. About a year ago they started marketing their burgers as "hormone free". Turns out they were purely buying beef from Australia and New Zealand and not supporting the 200 billion $ Canadian beef industry. Needless to say once this hit social media there was a out and out boycott of A+W. The mainstream burger joints, McD's and Wendys etc lived happily ever after.

A&W is no where close to the same as In-n-Out. I believe the family owns its own csttle and butcher operation?

To buy beef from the other side of the planet and ship to Canada it has to be really f'n cheap. I'd like to see the price difference. Interesting.

Not just often said, studies have been done.

No matter what, have you ever been around cows raised for market? I'll take the antibiotics cows all day long. :D

Yes- when I was a kid we had a family farm.

When a cow, chicken or pig got sick we treated the individual animal.

We didnt mix antibiotics in all the food as a preemptive strike and wouldn't dream of growth hormones.

I thought the US version of A&W was A&W?

Certainly isn't Steak N Shake.

UD

True, there are A&W's around.

A&W being compared to In-N-Out is laughable.

I do like Steak N Shake, but still its not In-N-Out.

Last 3-4 times at In&Out I have been let down. Taking too long, bun is cold or burned and the fries weren't hot.

They are about to lose me as a customer. Something definitely has changed....at least as far as consistency of product is concerned.

Agreed as a midwest guy moved here there is nothing like In N Out.

A&W has better root beer and onion ring because In N Out doesnt have them.

UD

My Fav A&W commercial.

I am hoping in your guys' case that have been unhappy recently, its a store issue. I still have it every month or so, and still pleased, and I am a horrible critic for them since I worked there for years and ate hundreds of burgers if you do the math, a free one per shift. I have not noticed a drop in quality at my two stores I hit, 94 in foothill ranch, and 36 in La Habra. It must be good if I still choose to order it after working in it for years on end in high school and college. :D

Better fries - they at least last till your finish the burger.

The burgers and their produce - not so much.

You'll never go back to in and out after going to five guys. Once you go gay you never go back. Ask grads.

I'm thinking this switch to no antibiotics beef has ulterior motives.
Part because in today's world people are looking to healthier food,no growth hormone this,no antibiotics that. And that's fine.It has to be better for the person eating the food I imagine.

Let's not forget here though, part of In&Outs buisness model has always been that they pay their employees more than the other chains, who typically pay minimum wage.
Since the minimum is rising thanks to fast food employees thinking they should be able to live on what they make from an entry level job...In&Out will now have to pay their people that much more.

Expect the price of the #1 with grilled onions to go up.Switching to this higher quality beef will help justify that hike in prices.

I can confirm that every time minimum wage went up, our wages did as well, even if we were "up in the ranks" in pay at the stores. Its funny though, you can still get a #1 there for cheaper than a combo at mcdonalds or jack in the box for example, even with them paying their employees well over double :D

I love burgers. But to me in n out has some of the worst. They have no flavor at all. I only taste what's on the burger. The meat has no flavor.

IMO it all depends on how busy they are, if they are slammed, the quality of the burger build sucks, if they are just average busy well the burger build is great. When I'm dissatisfied I complain to them and bamm, usually I get 2 free meals, done it 2x in the past and they deserved a lecture from what I got. Other than that they always kick ass, their fries are so so IMO.

In-N-Out is killing it in Texas, as for 5 Guys or Habit, not impressed.

I would take a 5 guys burger over in n out. 5 guys burgers remind of backyard bbqing. [emoji106]

Dont get me wrong, in n out is good ... but I just think 5 guys burgers are better.

In n out fries are horrible.

I dig the Habit pastrami sandwich.:thumbsup
But considering I'm 11 bucks deep for a sandwich some onion rings and a tea,it better be good.

The quality may have remained but the taste hasn't.

Cupids tastes the same, Lawrys taste the same, Langers is the same, Tommy's is the same, but In n Out isn't.
So it ain't me.
The kids and wife agree.
They did something in the last decade and it changed the flavor.

It may be the seasoning salt was changed to reduced sodium, maybe,, and the dressing has no flavor anymore maybe to reduce fat or something, but I've been eating In n Out my whole life and the whole family noticed the difference too.
About 8-9 years ago. I kept my opinion to myself and the kids brought it up that something is missing and we all agreed we don't like it anymore.

I could definitely see them changing something in the spread, I don't touch the stuff myself, no my thing. The seasoning is literally an 80/20 blend of salt and black pepper, and in terms of amount used, that's really on whoever is grilling and doing fries, they might have been instructed company wide to ease up a bit, I wouldn't know though. I will ask a couple of buddies still with the company higher up if anything has been altered. :thumbsup

I still prefer In-N-Out over Five Guys. The Habit is better than Five Guys as well.

They are putting in a Five Guys one the last pad at the Costco in San Dimas. They are also putting in a Dickie's BBQ, Krispy Kreme, and Panera Bread at the same spot.

I personally believe panera bread is destroying paradise bakery. The ones that have changed here in Phoenix are a mess.

I've only been to Panera a handful of times. It's good but pricey for a sandwich. As is Jimmy johns. Now I'm hungry...guess it is time to go downstairs and make some lunch. :cool

The physical business model is a mess. Who puts a wall directly in front of you when you walk into a restaurant? I thought everyone was appealing to an open home/building?
