Imco fuel valve

Could someone explain how these valves work? Specifically how does manually switching the tanks work? Or maybe how does that override the electric valve inside?

My buddy came over today to have me look at his because it wasn't working. It turned out to be a simple wiring issue and it functions fine now. I thought that I would be able to see the manual valve arm moving with the electric portion but it doesn't work that way. Or at least his isn't, maybe there is still a problem?

For reference it's a standard, 6 port. 2 supply's, 2 returns for the tanks and one supply and return for the motor.

It's been a million years.. but I'm pretty sure if you pull that quick pin and move the level it disengages it from the electric arm.. Meaning if that pin isn't in there the electric deal won't actually switch the tanks.. or if the electric actuator fails for some reason that is how you'd switch it manually by pulling the pin and moving the lever.

Side story (or so I've been told, no idea on the accuracy but it makes sense).. Pretty well known boat damaged a set of Merc 1350 / 1550's because that pin fell out or was disengaged somehow.. They switched it and thought it was running race gas, and it turned out it wasn't.. :oops:

There’s three slots in the housing the pin goes through.
One is return tank
One is draw tank
One is electric actuator.

Put through all three and it’ll switch with power from A to B or B to A
Pull pin out of the rear an actuator and you manually change the draw tank and the return tank. You can even make it specifically return to opposite tank by pulling rod out of the rear pin as well if you needed to fill the one tank due to some unseen issue.

Thank you! The pin was not in the electric actuator and I couldn't see that far in. Having never messed with one I was a little lost.

The pin and both levers should all move together with the electric actuator correct?

It tells you how to operate it manually and that's how it had been being operated without issue I might add.

very simple.. even for my simple mind.. Reverse polarity activated. Manually pull pin disengages the power activator from the valve... A typical manual fuel selector valve with power activator in a pretty box...

It also switches the fuel gauge to the selected tank, unlike a manual valve.

Its not an electric valve...it's an inexpensive manual valve operated by an inexpensive linear actuator in an expensive box. The lever is hooked to the valve and pinned through the linear actuator...pulling the pin disconnects it and you can manually put it wherever you want.

Yes the rear is the electric actuator that when all three are connected it will then move both valve levers.
