yes, people do fall for this. I have a friend at work that signed up for a single parent site and met "Fred", a guy that had a house in San Diego and was in England for business. Long story short, he supposedly had a son dying, asked her for money his name was not Fred it was Yemi and he was from Nigeria. He admitted to her that he was on the site to scam people but "fell in love with her". Every since this she gets these email scams all the time. In fact, he did somehow get her bank information and she did not give him money.
