I had seen the movie before, but probably since i was about 19. Whenever I watch an old movie, I always like to check out the actors in IMDB to see what else they have been in.

Here are a couple of interesting takeaways....

1) It wasn't as good as I remembered.

2) I didn't realize the The Driver is played by singer James Taylor.

3) The Mechanic was played by Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. He drowned at at 39.

4) The guy in the GTO was the Sgt in the movie Stripes. I don't remember him being such a weirdo in the Movie.

5) The Girl in the movie was only in a few films, then became a photographer. She lived with Art Garfunkel (Simon & Garfunkel) and committed suicide at age 25 in Art's penthouse. I guess her mother had committed suicide at age 25 also.

A lot of weird things happened with the cast and crew of Poltergeist. My wife went to a birthday party at the poltergeist house here in Simi Valley when she was a teenager and didn't know at the time that the house was used in the movie and said the house had a weird vibe.

Here is a pic of the house as it sits now, the landscape has changed quite a bit.

Here's a couple more facts about the movie. The '55 Chevy in Two Lane Blacktop was the same car that Harrison Ford drove in American Graffiti.

Another interesting fact about the car is the scene where Ford crashes the car and it burns. The burn car was a stunt double.

During the movie shots preceeding the crash, you can see the big wide wheels and tires on the rear axle. After the crash, when the camera pulls in on the upside down burning '55, the visible rear wheel is a stock steel piece, spray painted silver. The tire is a standard size and width bias ply.

I have known it was the same car for years. I just recently saw video pointing out the stunt double. I drove by the spot where the race took places (Paradise Road) about 6 years ago. It still looked pretty much the same. I drove by it again about a year ago and there are vinyards or something in the field where the car crashed. Bob Falfa's tire tracks could still be seen 6 years ago. :D

Wow, old car flick knowledge...Any one here watch Hollywood Knights? It was filmed all around the valley. Many of the people moved on to bigger/better things, and real hot rod people were used as well.

Great movie

Was shown that movie when I was doing work for Bill Larzelere...he was in the flick as himself. It was cool seeing some things that were still the same and what had changed.

...Didn’t work on that particular movie but several of my friends did...I was there hanging out and eating with the cast and crew for most of the scenes shot at the drive-in restaurant (the old A&W Rootbeer on Van Nuys Bl just below Valerio)...

There was another movie called Van Nuys Blvd. This van was in the movie. I was reading recently, that some guy found it in a field with a tree on top off it. He came and took the van and restored it. Now, after many years of restoration, the owner is claiming he stole the van from them and they want it back.

The guy in the Glendale Speed Center T Shirt is Richard Ruth. Richard built the 55 Chevy. Richard is an excellent fabricator. The drag race scene at the beginning of the movie was done on Alameda Street. It was kind of weird watching a street race with cops standing around not trying to break it up.

Dennis Wilson's character mumbled that line about a hunnert times. Seemed like every time they stopped to eat, get gas, or stop for the night, it was time to rejet.

Funny, when I moved here that must have been how I sounded! Took me a while to figure out carbs at 6k...

Turns out this guy was arrested on Oct 4th for theft of the van. I guess the people it belonged to, bought about a year after the movie came out. They were 18 and 16 at the time (Married). They traveled around in the van, and even lived in it for a short time, for about 10 years. Once they had kids, they parked the van for another more kid friendly vehicle. They lived on 20 acres next to public lands in the desert. A fire came through and burnt their house down, so they had to move into the LA area, and left the van on the property. the fire killed the tree, causing it to fall on the van. With the sentimental value of the van, I get them not being happy it was stolen. What I don't agree with was they didn't report it until the restoration was complete. any who... It was an interesting read.

The owners never would have repaired the van. It would have melted into the dirt if not for the guy that rescued it.

Yep... Either way it's there property. At the end of the day, I Think they should be compensated for it's actual value at the time it was recovered (which was basically nothing)
